Pozycja 19F MRI As a tool for imaging drug delivery to tissue and individual cells(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2017) Bober, Zuzanna; Aebisher, David; Ożóg, Łukasz; Tabarkiewicz, Jacek; Tutka, Piotr; Bartusik-Aebisher, DorotaOver the past few decades, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven to be extremely successful in medical applications. More recently, the biomedical applications of MRI have been gaining more use in the field of clinical pharmacy. In 1977, perfluorocarbon compounds (PFC), which form emulsions that can carry drugs, were analyzed by 19F MRI and emulsified PFC compounds have been investigated as potential blood substitutes since the early 1960s and now a wide variety of PFC compounds are currently available as 19F MRI biomarkers. Molecules with 19F substituents are particularly attractive for use in drug tracking by 19F MRI due to 100% 19F abundance, high 19F MRI sensitivity (0.83 relative to 1H MRI) and an impressively large chemical shift range (400 ppm). Another benefit in the use of 19F MRI is a zero background signal in biological samples due to lack of endogenous fluorine. Therefore, drugs containing fluorine atom have potential for 19F MRI imaging drug delivery to tissue. Charcot Marie Tooth disease (CMT) is currently one of the most commonly diagnosed and commonly hereditary sensorimotor neuropathies. Concluding from the literature, this is the first study describing the case of a patient with CMT disease in the c.217G> C variant of the INF2 gene and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Aim. To present a case of a 16-year-old patient suffering from CMT disease in variant c.217G> C of the INF2 gene and focal glomerulosclerosis. Description of the case. The text describes the CMT disease in a patient who underwent the WES / WGS-NGS genetic test and found a mutation within the INF2 gene at the chromosomal position hg38 14: 104701582-G> C, cDNA level c.217 G> C , notation at the p protein level (Gly73Arg). Genotype record according to Human Genome Variation Society: NM_022489.4: c. [217G> C]; [217 =]. The publication includes data on genetics, molecular mechanisms of the disease, diagnostic methods, rehabilitation and surgical treatment. Conclusion. CMT disease is a heterogeneous group of diseases caused by mutations in various genes. The incidence of this pathology has increased significantly in the last century. Currently, there are no treatments available to combat this disease, and symptomatic treatment is the only treatment available.Pozycja A benign entity – cerebral multinodular and vacuolating neuronal tumor(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2022) Kış, Naciye; Erok, Berrin; Kılıç, Harun; Önder, HakanIntroduction and aim. Multinodular and vacuolating neuronal tumor (MVNT) of the cerebrum is a rare benign, mixed glial/ neuronal lesion which has been included in the recent (2016) World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of the central nervous system tumors.Most of the reported cases are remarkable with adult onset seizure in the literature.They can also be found incidentally in nonepilepsy patients with or without headache We aimed to present this unique entity with its typical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features. Description of the case. A 21-year old man presented with complaint of headache that increased in frequency within the last few months.No relevant seizure or any other signs of note.He was diagnosed with MVNT by imaging andstarted to be followed- up.The repeat MRI 6 months later showed no interval changes. Conclusion. Clinicians should be aware of that it is a do not touch lesion in asymptomatic patients with no need for biopsy or surgery and follow up imaging is sufficient when presented with the typical MRI manifestations. Surgical resection may be required for seizure control and was reported in few cases with no tumoral regrowth in the literature.Pozycja A comparative analysis of the rehabilitation course of two patients after the implantation of an artificial hip joint(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2018) Handkiewicz, KrzysztofIntroduction. Endoprosthetics is the most effective method of returning to a normal way of life without pain. The key element is the post-operative rehabilitation program where a patient has to comply with certain rules and principles. The rehabilitation also includes the family of the patient. Each person, after any surgery requires an individual approach, and no patient can be commonly treated. Aim. The aim of the article is to compare the effects of an early rehabilitation after the implantation of an artificial hip joint in two patient cases. Description of the cases. This research was conducted at Bodden-Klinken GmbH. An individual case study was used, based on an example of two patients at the age of 59 who had implantation of an artificial hip joint. The carried out rehabilitation of the patients was conducted without any disruptions. Patients were able to freely walk on crutches nine days after the procedure. Conclusions. In the cases analyzed, the rehabilitation course was described until the ninth day after implantation of an artificial hip joint. High results in terms of patient rehabilitation were achieved. Furthermore, in order to continue their therapy, they were referred to the sanatorium.Pozycja A comparative study of neuropharmacological properties of Tabernaemontana divaricata (Apocynaceae) leaves extracts in a Swiss albino mouse model(Rzeszów University Press, 2025-06) Reddy, Konatham Teja Kumar; Gupta, Jeetendra Kumar; P., Prabitha; Mubeen, M.; Syed, Sabeena Hussain; Dhunmati, K.; Bodapati, Anoop; Taru, Poonam Popatrao; Krosuri, Pavankumar; Prasad, P. DharaniIntroduction and aim. Interest in natural products and nutraceuticals for the treatment of mental diseases such as anxiety, stress, sadness, and psychosis has increased due to their high safety index and cost. The primary objective of this work was to analyze the neuropharmacological attributes of leaf extracts of Tabernaemontana divaricata using models from Swiss albino mice. Material and methods. Methanol, acetone, and ethyl acetate extracts were prepared from authenticated T. divaricata leaves. Experiments were conducted on 170 mice to evaluate the effects of thiopental sodium on sleeping time, hole cross, hole board, and open field behaviors. The duration of sleep caused by thiopental sodium was assessed at several doses, including 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 200 mg/kg of body weight. Additionally, doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg of body weight were used in the remaining tests. Results. All extracts significantly increased thiopental-induced sleeping time in a dose-dependent manner, with maximum effects observed at 200 mg/kg (methanol: 684.77%, acetone: 655.63%, ethyl acetate: 666.89%). Locomotor and exploratory behaviors were reduced in all behavioral models, including a significant decrease in head dips and square crossings (p<0.01), supporting central nervous system depressant activity. Conclusion. The study reveals that extracts of T. divaricata exhibit depressive and hypnotic effects on the central nervous sys tem, indicating the need for further research.Pozycja A comparative study of pharmacological, nonpharmacological, and combined methods of induction of labor(Rzeszów University Press, 2025-03) Unmesh, Puri Sudha; Murlidhar, Bharati Vinod; Vikram, Latpate RaosahebIntroduction and aim. Induction of labor (IOL), a common obstetric procedure, aims to induce labor. The study defined labor induction success as true uterine contractions and classified delivery outcomes as vaginal, instrumental, and cesarean. A higher Bishop score predicts a vaginal delivery. The objective was to compare cervical status, induction success, cesarean section rates, and normal delivery rates of pharmacological and non-pharmacological IOL methods. Material and methods. In this study, 296 pregnant women admitted to the labor room were divided into three groups: those who received pharmacological agents (25 μg/50 μg misoprostol or dinoprostone 5 g gel to start labor), those who were giv en non-pharmacological agents (Foley’s catheter and membrane stripping to start labor), and those who were given both non-pharmacological and pharmacological agents (Foley’s catheter and membrane stripping followed by oxytocin to start labor). Results. Although a 92.5% induction success rate, the use of non-pharmacological methods alone led to a rate of 49.06% cesar ean section rate. Combined with a pharmacological agent such as oxytocin, it achieved almost the same success rate (91.43%) as a pharmacological method of inducing labor (18.57%). This resulted in a lower rate of cesarean section than pharmacological and nonpharmacological methods (p=0.002). Conclusion. Nonpharmacological IOL methods alone led to higher cesarean rates despite improved cervical status. Combining them with pharmacological agents such as oxytocin resulted in higher normal delivery rates and fewer cesarean sections, indicating a more effective approach for improving delivery outcomes.Pozycja A comparative study on the utility of biomarkers – serum interleukin-13 against serum immunoglobulin E in assessing the severity of asthma(Rzeszów University Press, 2025-06) Raju, Prasanna; Sundar, Subash; Suresh, Preethi; Thulukanam, Jayaprakash; Srinivasan, PadmanabanIntroduction and aim. Asthma is a complex respiratory condition with fluctuating symptoms, airflow obstruction, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and inflammation. Interleukin (IL)-13 induces various biological responses, including B-cell immunoglobulin E (IgE), eosinophil chemo-attractants, and mucus-secreting goblet cell maturation. B-cell immunoglobulin E antibodies are essential for the onset and propagation of the inflammatory cascade, triggering the allergic response. The aim was to compare the utility of biomarkers – serum IL-13 against serum IgE in assessing the severity of asthma. Material and methods. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted involving 68 asthmatic children aged 6–12 years and 68 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Asthma severity was assessed using spirometry and categorized as mild, moderate, or severe based on GINA guidelines. Serum IL-13 and IgE levels were measured using validated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results. The study confirmed elevated levels of serum IL-13 and IgE in children with asthma compared to the control group, suggesting their involvement in the development of asthma (p<0.001). The threshold values for identifying the existence of asthma were 1.86 pg/mL for IL-13 and 314 ng/ml for IgE. The IL-13 level could accurately classify asthmatic children as having either moderate or severe asthma, using a cut-off value of ≥2.66 pg/mL, with a statistically significant p=0.001. However, no such results were observed with IgE. Conclusion. Bronchial asthma patients had markedly higher levels of total IgE and IL-13 compared to the healthy controls included in the study. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a basic metabolic disease of inadequate control of blood glucose levels. Hyperglycemia is exacerbated, and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) progresses both insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction. Management of T2DM involves both lifestyle modification and pharmacological therapy. To achieve optimized health outcomes, the patient requires adequate knowledge, attitude, and practice, so educating the patients on these diseases is an effective strategy to reduce complications of T2DM. Material and methods. This is a cross-sectional study which was conducted from August 2022 to January 2023. A total of 200 participants were enrolled with inclusion criteria to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practice of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Results. The mean knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) was 71.5%, 87.5%, and 40% respectively. There is a significant association between knowledge, attitude, practice questions, and socio-demographic characteristics. Education was strongly associated with having higher knowledge scores (p=0.001). Conclusion. The study’s conclusions made clear the necessity of well-planned interventions to raise T2DM awareness among patients with low levels of education. Patients with T2DM may benefit from well-designed educational programs that encourage healthy behavior and these interventions can improve the quality of life of patients in rural region of Tamil Nadu.Pozycja A family screening of CD19 gene mutation by PCR-RFLP(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2022) Karaselek, Mehmet Ali; Kapaklı, Hasan; Güner, Şükrü Nail; Kurar, Ercan; Küççüktürk, Serkan; Keleş, Sevgi; Reisli, İsmailIntroduction and aim. Mutation(s) in the gene encoding the CD19 molecule affect CD19 protein expression and primary immunodeficiency (PID) occurs. The PCR-RFLP method, which is faster and cheaper than other mutation detection methods, is rarely used in the diagnosis of PID. The study aimed to genetically identify CD19 deficiency, which is a PID, using the PCR-RFLP method. Material and methods. A total of 8 patients and two healthy controls were included in the study and the relevant region genotypes in the CD19 gene were determined by performing PCR-RFLP analysis. Results. The index case, newborn baby and mother were also included in the study. It was determined that the index case (P6) was homozygous mutant, the newborn baby (P7) and mother (P8) had heterozygous genotype. Based on this situation, one child (P1) was found to be homozygous mutant, mother (P2), father (P3) and other children (P4 and P5) had heterozygous genotype in the family, which was determined to be related to the first case. Conclusion. In our study, it has been shown that PCR-RFLP is a method that can be used in the diagnosis of PID by determining genotypes using PCR-RFLP, and especially in terms of rapid genetic testing of family screenings.Pozycja A long clinical course with late distant metastases from follicular thyroid carcinoma(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Erok, Berrin; Harmancı, Kemal; Aksaray, Ferdi; Unlu, Nazmi Uğur; Aydın, SeckinIntroduction. Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) accounts for 10-20% of the differentiated thyroid carcinomas (DTCs), and it is the second most common thyroid malignancy after papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). FTC is typically more common in women and in older age group than PTC. Unlike PTC, FTC metastases late to the lymph nodes, with only up to 10-20% of the patients having nodal metastases at the time of diagnosis.On the other hand, distant metastasis via hematogenous spread is more likely in patients with FTC due to the invasion of blood vessels. Prognosis depends on the extent of the distant metastasis which drop 10-year survival significantly. Aim. Although DTCs have usually favorable prognosis, metastatic disease in these patients has a long clinical course. Cranial imaging in these patients should be performed during the follow-up after the treatment of FTC with thyroidectomy and RAI. Description of the case. We report a case of late onset but catastrophic hematogenous distant metastases beginning 8 years after the diagnosis & treatment of FTC and becommimg widespread during the following 10 years with a long clinical course in a 60 year old female patient. Conclusion. In the RAI refractory metastatic lesions SRS and surgical resections should be conserned as the first management approach to improve survival.Pozycja A new local therapy of periodontitis in the course of stomach pathology and tobacco smoke intoxication(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Romanova, Iuliia; Zolotukhina, Olena; Shnaider, Stanislav; Kravchenko, Lyudmila; Noneva, NataliiaIntroduction. Inflammatory periodontal diseases, arising against a background of stomach pathology from tobacco addiction remain an acute problem of modern dentistry. Aim. The experimental assessment of a new local treatment efficiency during therapy of simulated periodontitis with hyperacid gastritis and the tobacco smoke intoxication. Material and methods. The work was conducted in 2 stages. At the first stage, all experimental animals were divided into 4 groups: І — intact, II — with simulated periodontitis, III — with simulated periodontitis and hyperacid gastritis, IV — with simulated periodontitis with hyperacid gastritis and tobacco smoking. The local therapy efficiency was evaluated with the use of a new preparation for oral care and a comparison product conducted at the 2nd stage in rats with simulated periodontitis with hyperacid gastritis and tobacco smoking. Results. Experimental periodontitis with hyperacid gastritis and tobacco smoking provokes considerable changes in the periodontal tissues typical for the inflammatory process: lipid peroxidation activity rises and antioxidant system activity reduces. A local therapy in rats resulted in correction of detected metabolic disorders, improving removal of the damaging factors harmful influence and restoring the periodontal tissues condition. Conclusion. The medical efficiency of a new gel normalizes the influence of lipid peroxidation processes, inflammation and the oral cavity protective system activation during periodontitis which arises up against a background of the concomitant pathology of stomach – hyperacid gastritis.Pozycja A novel method of immunomodulation of endothelial cells using Streptococcus pyogenes and its lysate(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Arokiaraj, Mark Christopher; Wilson, JaradIntroduction. Coronary artery diseases and autoimmune disorders are common in clinical practice. Aim. In this study, Streptococcus pyogenes and its lysate were studied to modify the endothelial function. Material and methods. HUVEC cells were seeded in the cell culture, and Streptococcus pyogenes were added to the cell culture, and the supernatant was studied for the secreted proteins. In the second phase, the bacterial lysate was synthesized, and the lysate was added to cell culture and studied. Results. When S. pyogenes alone was added to culture, E Cadherin, Angiostatin, EpCAM and PDGF-AB were some of the biomarkers elevated significantly. HCC1, IGFBP2 and TIMP were some of the biomarkers which showed a reduction. When the lysate was added, the cell-culture was maintained for a longer time, and it showed the synthesis of immune regulatory cytokines. Heatmap analysis showed a significant number of proteins/cytokines concerning the immune/pathways, and toll-like receptors superfamily were modified. BLC, IL 17, BMP 7, PARC, Contactin2, IL 10 Rb, NAP 2 (CXCL 7), Eotaxin 2 were maximally increased. By principal component analysis, the results observed were significant. Conclusion. There is potential for a novel method of immunomodulation of the endothelial cells, which have pleiotropic functions, using S. pyogenes and its lysates.Pozycja A patient with overlap syndrome: systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and Sjögren’s syndrome – a rare overlapping diseases case report(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2023-09) Sokołowska, Aldona; Iwański, Mateusz; Dąbrowski, PiotrIntroduction and aim. Autoimmune rheumatic diseases are a group of disorders with similar clinical, laboratory and immunological manifestations. Connective tissue diseases include systemic scleroderma, dermatomyositis or polymyositis, Sjögren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. If the patient meets the diagnostic criteria for at least two of these diseases and has specific serologic markers, a diagnosis of overlap syndrome is possible. Description of the case. This case describes a 27-year-old man who had a history of paroxysmal fever, night sweats, erythema-like skin lesions on the forearms and lower legs, a feeling of progressive muscle weakness especially in the proximal muscles, and dry mouth. The patient was diagnosed with an overlap syndrome: systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and Sjögren’s syndrome. Conclusion. Overlap syndrome is difficult to treat due to its multisystem nature, requiring a symptomatic therapeutic approach and careful control of medication doses to reduce side effects while controlling disease activity.Pozycja A potential usage of probiotics in prevention and treatment of neutropenic enterocolitis(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2023-03) Gałązka, Jakub Krzysztof; Homa, Piotr; Domagalski, ŁukaszIntroduction and aim. Neutropenic enterocolitis is a severe disease that affects patients with immunodeficiency and is often related with the chemotherapy of the hematologic malignancies. Its pathophysiology is not fully understood. Neutropenic colitis may lead to sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding and even perforations requiring surgical management. The therapy consists of antibiotic therapy, transfusions, hematopoietic growth factor treatment, usage of fluids and electrolytes, bowel rest and even surgical operations. The aim of this review is to consider the potential usage of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of neutropenic enterocolitis. Material and methods. References for that article were found through PubMed and Google Scholar, using terms: “neutropenic enterocolitis” and “probiotics”, or “gut microbiota” and “neutropenic enterocolitis”. The research was limited to abstracts and available full-text articles. Analysis of the literature. The most possible mechanism of neutropenic enterocolitis development appoints bacterial invasion with co-existing immunodeficiency. The probiotics appeal as beneficial agents in both prevention and treatment of neutropenic enterocolitis in according to their impact on gut immune barrier improvement. However older societies’ guidelines were cautious, the most modern ones appoint probiotics as a promising agent in neutropenic enterocolitis, what corresponds with results from current randomized clinical trials. Conclusion. As neutropenic enterocolitis is a severe disease we need to look for better or alternative therapies of that state. The probiotics seems to have beneficial effects in terms of prevention and treatment of neutropenic enterocolitis due to their impact on gut immune barrier. Benefits of such therapy are reflected in current societies’ guidelines which consider probiotics as a promising agent in neutropenic enterocolitis.Pozycja A promising approach to wound healing – in-vivo study of carbon nanodots infused PVA hydrogel with Kamias extract as antibacterial wound dressing(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2023-06) Hipolito, Marilene C.Introduction and aim. The use of carbon nanodots (C-nanodots) synthesized from Kamias leaves for developing antibacterial wound dressings has gained attention due to their potential in promoting wound healing and contraction. To extract Kamias leaves, synthesize C-nanodots through microwave-assisted pyrolysis, characterize the synthesized C-nanodots, and test the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel infused with C-nanodots for antibacterial activity and wound contraction in Sprague Dawley rats. Material and methods. Kamias leaves extract was used to synthesize C-nanodots with varying amounts of monoethanolamine. The C-nanodots were characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer, electron microscope, and the paper disk method. The PVA hydrogel infused with C-nanodots was tested for antibacterial activity and wound contraction in Sprague Dawley rats. Results. The synthesized C-nanodots exhibited antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus and Subtilis bacillus, with a zone of inhibition ranging from 15 mm to 23.6 mm at different concentrations. The carbon nanodots-PVA hydrogel patch showed potential wound healing ability, with significant differences in wound contraction compared to the positive and negative controls. Conclusion. C-nanodots synthesized from Kamias extract have potential applications in antibacterial and wound healing fields. However, further studies are required to investigate the mechanism of action and potential side effects of using carbon nanodots in these applications.Pozycja A prospective, interventional clinical study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Liv.52 DS in the management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Siregar, Gontar; Paramesh, Rangesh; Kumawat, Rajesh; Palaniyamma, D; Srikrishna, HAIntroduction. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is excessive fat build-up in the liver due to causes other than alcohol use. Aim. To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Liv.52 DS tablets in the management of NAFLD. Material and methods. Prospective, interventional clinical study conducted on 60 patients of both sex, aged between 18-65 years, confirmed with NAFLD from clinical examination, laboratory test, ultrasound findings and those willing to give informed consent. All patients received Liv.52 DS at a dose of 2 tablets twice daily for 2 months. All patients were evaluated at baseline, end of 1st month, and end of 2nd month for liver function tests, hepatomegaly by ultrasound, NAFLD Fibrosis Score, lipid profile, hematology and biochemical investigations. Results. Study data was analyzed with GraphPad Prism Software Version 6.07. Data of those patients who completed the study was considered for analysis. Significant improvement in hepatomegaly, liver enzymes was observed. NAFLD fibrosis score revealed no progression of liver fibrosis due to NAFLD during the study period. No abnormal lab values were recorded and there were no adverse events reported during the study. Conclusion. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are tumors of mesenchymal origin which originate from the walls of gastrointestinal system (GIS) organs. Aim. In this case report we aim to discuss the clinical, labaratory and radiological presentation of distal duodenal GIST as a rare and overlooked cause of life-threatining GIS bleeding. Description of the case. A 76-year-old male patient was presented to the emergency department with massive gastrointestinal bleeding. Computerized tomography revealed a mass soft tissue density of 4x4cm at the level of the 3-4th segment of the duodenum. At the endoscopy, there was a deep ulcer in the proximal part of the 3rd segment of the duodenum with a diameter of 2 cm with a bleeding vessel protruding into the lumen. After endoscopic treatments, biopsies were taken from the edges of the ulcer. Histopathological examination revealed a sheet-like infiltration composed of mildly pleomorphic cells with oval-spindle nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm in the duodenal lamina propria, as the patient was diagnosed of GIST. Conclusion. Hypertrophic olivary degeneration (HOD) is an extremely rare disease that affects the inferior olivary nucleus (ION) in the medulla oblongata and is also referred to as hypertrophic degeneration of the inferior olives. This type of degeneration is characterized by trans-synaptic degeneration resulting from the blocking of afferent impulses in the ION, which is distinct from HOD. In this report, we present a clinical case of bilateral HOD that was identified and confirmed by neuroimaging two months after pontine hemorrhage. Description of the case. A 52-year-old male was admitted to a university hospital because of gait imbalance, difficulty in swallowing and speaking, psychomotor agitation, visual hallucinations, and full vertical and horizontal gaze paralysis. He had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obesity. The patient received symptomatic supportive treatment, without surgery. Ten weeks after the vascular incident, neurological examination revealed six cases of right cranial nerve palsy, vertical pendular nystagmus, dysarthria, decreased throat reflexes, and lingual and pharyngeal paresthesia. Repeated magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral hyperintense foci of 15×6 mm in the medulla oblongata, as detected by T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery. Two months of treatment with clonazepam, carbamazepine, and vestibular exercise resulted in no positive changes. Rehabilitation and psychotherapy were then continued. Conclusion. Contrast MRI is required to confirm HOD, whereas non-contrast magnetic resonance imaging is the only method used for imaging and is not always reliable because it can cause neoplasia, infarction, demyelinating disorders, infections, and other similar problems.Pozycja A renal abscess in the isthmus of horseshoe kidney(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2017) Balawender, Krzysztof; Orkisz, Stanisław; Biela, Przemysław; Sęk-Mastej, AnnaHorseshoe kidney (HSK) is the renal fusion anomaly caused by disturbances in embryonic development when the kidneys are fused together in the lower or upper pole forming an isthmus. The most common disorders in urinary tract related to horseshoe kidney are ureteral pelvic junction obstruction, urinary tract infection and urolithiasis. In our study, we present a rare case of an abscess in the isthmus of horseshoe kidney after extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy on the right kidney was performed. The patient has had recurrent urolithiasis and underwent 4 treatments on the left kidney in the past without complications.
