Filozof na tronie – postawa Marka Aureliusza wobec chrześcijan

Abstract

Struktura pracy obejmuje trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiłem Marka Aureliusza jako człowieka i filozofa, ukazując jego młodość, edukację oraz pracę nad charakterem. Po określeniu filozofii antycznej w sensie ogólnym, przedstawiłem filozofię cesarza. Następnie nakreśliłem jego profil moralny, postawę obywatelską, rolę ćwiczeń duchowych w kształtowaniu charakteru i ostatecznie podkreśliłem wiele wspólnych poglądów naszego bohatera z nauką chrześcijańską. W drugim rozdziale ukazałem Marka Aureliusza jako władcę Imperium. Po przedstawieniu rysu historycznego państwa rzymskiego, kształtowania się prawa na przestrzeni wieków, ukazałem cesarza jako egzekutora tego prawa, kontynuatora i w mniejszym stopniu reformatora. Marek Aureliusz niestety nie był reformatorem na miarę potrzeb Imperium, i to wykazałem w tym rozdziale, dokonując analizy rodziny, niewolnictwa, walk gladiatorów i Pax Romana. Trzeci rozdział to chrześcijaństwo w epoce rządów Marka Aureliusza. Opisałem pozycję chrześcijaństwa w kontekście judaizmu oraz pierwszych prześladowań z czasów poprzedzających rządy Marka Aureliusza. Wyjaśniłem postawy chrześcijan, apologie i stosunek Rzymian do tej religii, podając przykłady sprzeczności procesów. Ukazałem też linię obrony apologetów chrześcijańskich wobec tych oskarżeń. Kończąc oceniłem rolę Marka Aureliusza w prześladowaniach.The structure of the following dissertation includes three chapters. The first provides general information about Marcus Aurelius as a man and a philosopher with reference to his childhood and adolescence, education and intellectual formation. Giving the general information about the ancient philosophy, there is some information about his morality and attitude towards the state and social issues. Spiritual exercises play an important role in the formation of his values and there are significant similarities between his views and Christianity. The second chapter is about Marcus Aurelius as the ruler of the Roman Empire. There are important facts about the history and the caesar is presented as the executive of laws. Marcus Aurelius was not a reformer which is to be seen in his approach towards family, slavery and gladiators fights and Pax Romana. The third chapter is about Christianity during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. There is a detailed description of Christian religion with reference to Judaism and the first persecutions which preceded Marcus Aurelius. The religious values, apologies and the general attitude of Romans towards the new religion played a key part in that time. The chapter also discusses the Christian apologists who objected to persecutions and the general outlook of Marcus Aurelius on the Christians.
