W niniejszej pracy podjęto tematykę oczekiwań wolontariuszy wobec wolontariatu i ich realizację. Wolontariusze, podejmując pracę dla danej organizacji, mają pewne oczekiwania, co do roli, jaką będą tam pełnić, korzyści (niematerialnych), jakie otrzymają, osób, które tam pracują, tego, jak się zachowają w zetknięciu z drugim człowiekiem, jakie będą mieć samopoczucie pomagając innym. W trakcie ich zaangażowania, zdarza się, że po początkowym entuzjazmie, zaczyna pojawiać się zniechęcenie i brak motywacji. Wyjaśnienie możliwych tego procesu było jedną z inspiracji podjęcia tego tematu badawczego. Niniejsza praca ma charakter teoretyczno badawczy, podzielona jest na pięć rozdziałów, z czego trzy są rozdziałami teoretycznymi, pozostałe dwa zawierają założenia metodologiczne badań i przedstawienie wyników badań własnych. Badania jakościowe były prowadzone na podstawie udostępnionych pamiętników wolontariuszy. Problemy badawcze przedstawiono również w szerszym kontekście, wykorzystując metodę sondażu diagnostycznego skierowanego do wolontariuszy Analiza jakościowa pamiętników wolontariuszy studentów umożliwiła zaobserwowanie mechanizmu pracy wolontariusza, który podzielono na trzy etapy od podjęcia decyzji o aktywności, przez kolejne kroki zaangażowania. Pozwoliło to na podjęcie próby skonstruowania modelu zaangażowania wolontariusza, który- w pewnych swoich aspektach- może być uniwersalny dla większości młodych społeczników studentów.

In the present research paper the topic of the expectations of volunteers towards volunteerism and their realisation was addressed. Volunteers taking up a job for a given organisation have specific expectations of a role they are going to play, benefits (non-material) which they will receive, people who work there, how they will behave themselves in relation with another people, and also how they will feel after helping others. It happens that while they are committed, after the innitial phase of enthusiasm, discouragement and the lack of motivation start to occur. The clarification of possible reasons of this process was one of the inspirations to take up the subject of the research. The present thesis is of a theoretical and research character, divided into five chapters. Three of them are theoretical and two remaining include methodological assumptions of study and the presentation of own research findings. Qualitative research was conducted on the basis of the volunteers' diaries. Research problems were also depicted in a wider context, using the method of diagnostic survey addressed to the volunteers. The quantitative analysis of the volunteers students' diaries – made it possible to observe the mechanism of volunteer work, which was divided into three phases from a decision about the activity through further steps of involvement. That allowed to take the attempt to construct the model of volunteer commitement, which in some aspects can be universal for the majority of young community workers – students.
