Podróże koleją inteligencji galicyjskiej w drugiej połowie XIX wieku we wspomnieniach, pamiętnikach i listach

Abstract

Kwestia, którą podejmuję w artykule, nie została szerzej omówiona w innych pracach. Wątki „kolejowe” przedstawiane są jako zagadnienia poboczne, pojawiają się przy okazji referowania innych problemów. W moim przekonaniu zupełnie niesłusznie. Podróż koleją do celu wyjazdu stanowiła w XIX w. element kluczowy całego zamierzenia, i choćby z tego powodu zasługuje na uwagę. Praca składa się z kilku części. W pierwszej omówiłem sieć kolejową zaboru austriackiego i najważniejsze fazy kolejowego otwierania się Galicji na Europę. W kolejnym fragmencie zestawiłem ceny biletów oraz zarobki inteligencji, co pozwoliło nie tylko hipotetycznie, ale bardziej realistycznie ocenić stopień wykorzystania klas pasażerskich przez analizowaną warstwę. W ostatniej próbuję ustalić katalog kolejowych zachowań podróżnych właściwych inteligencji.

The issue undertaken in the article has not been discussed more extensively in other works. The 'railway' threads are presented as side issues, appearing only when other problems are referred to, quite unfairly, in my view. The journey by rail to the destination was a key element of the whole endeavour in the nineteenth century and for this reason alone it deserves attention. The article consists of several parts. In the first, I discussed the railway network of the Austrian partition and the most important stages of Galicia's rail opening to Europe. In the next section, I collated ticket prices and the earnings of the intelligentsia, which made it possible not only hypothetically, but more realistically, to assess the degree of use of passenger classes by the analysed social stratum. In the last one, I attempt to establish a catalogue of railway travel behaviour typical of the intelligentsia.
