Contemporary Polish criminal novel is subjected to dynamic changes. The achievements of forensic sciences and the evolving tastes of readers have an influence on it. Hence, the determinants of the quality of criminal novels are changing. Moreover, those features that scholars consider valuable are often perceived by young readers as faults of literary works. Therefore, it is worth reflecting on the efforts of authors and publishers and the possibilities of influencing the reading culture of the young generation.
Kompetencje tekstotwórcze w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego na poziomie B2 i C1 (na przykładzie tekstu argumentacyjnego)

The article focuses on language skill development in the process of teaching Polish as a second language based on the example of an argumentative essay. It also includes theoretical remarks on the text-making competences of those learning Polish to the B2 and C1 levels, whilst a scenario proposed in the practical part of the article demonstrates how to combine exercises from different skill groups during classes, i.e. writing and speaking, reading and listening. What is more, it presents selected techniques of teaching Polish as a second language.

Rafał Moczkodan’s monograph entitled ‘Omawiacze, laurkodawcy’, publicyści i krytycy. Krytyka literacka na łamach ‘Wiadomości’ w latach 1946–1956 is the first attempt to tackle the problem suggested by the title. The reviewed work is well documented: all opinions and theses which are presented find their justification in the rich bibliography (including sources which are not only literary criticism texts), which the author is well versed on. Furthermore, the monograph has been written in a precise and interesting way, making the book an incentive to continue research on criticism and literary journalism in the area of ‘Wiadomości’.
Opowieść o „życiopisaniu”. Portret Emily Dickinson w filmie „Cicha namiętność” Terence’a Daviesa

Emily Dickinson was not married nor had children, she did not establish a family, but she had a life filled to the brim with love, friendship, suffering, death, searching for God and, of course, writing poems about all these fundamental phenomena of human existence. Her poetry reveals a picture of a woman who is unusually spiritually rich, beautiful and…unhappy, living for the bigger part of her mature existence like a hermit, oftentimes being a witness of deaths of those to whom she was closest. Additionally, perhaps because of her Sapphic inclination, she could experience suffering being forced to suppress it and feeling social isolation or exclusion. On the other hand, any reader of poems by “the nun of Amherst” can sense a great blast of happiness and some ecstatic delight over the existence itself and… the possibility of expressing this delight in poems. Just life itself and poetry were the greatest passions of Dickinson among many others which profusely filled her psyche. Indeed, it is difficult to assess which of these two infatuations was stronger. That is why I used in the title of my essay a neologism: “life-writing” (“życiopisanie”), which was some time ago first employed by the Polish poet Edward Stachura in reference to his own life and poetry. Terence Davies’s movie about Emily Dickinson and her life is a real masterpiece in which the weave of the two main passions Dickinson had, their interpenetration, their ardent intimacy or simply indissolubility and unity have been shown in a deliciously suggestive way. The essay is a modest attempt at using such a way of describing things.

Szkic prezentuje twórczość słabo znanego w Polsce pisarza Michała Moszkowicza, który wyemigrował do Szwecji. Wykorzystując pisanie jako (autoterapię), starał się opowiedzieć między innymi o problemie z brakiem zakorzenienia, wyobcowaniem, samotnością, wewnętrznym rozbiciem. Nie mogąc uwolnić się od traumy wygnania, szukał ukojenia w literaturze (swojej i innych). Stale powracając do tych samych zdarzeń, osób, rozmów, pragnie uporać się z traumatyczną przeszłością, z zawieszeniem między dwoma krajami, językami i kulturami, między polskością a żydwoskością, między wygnaniem a niemożnością zadomowienia się.
The Importance and Chosen Techniques of Teaching Very Young Learners to Write in English

The aim of the following paper is to introduce the aspect of teaching writing to very young pupils. The paper briefly presents the characteristics of young learners, together with their needs and requirements – mostly referring to the teachers of English. The paper was based on author’s own experiences as the former teacher of very young and young students and so, it points out some useful techniques as well as personal observations rooted in the theory of methodology, which were successful in teaching English to that particular age group.
Wpływ wady wymowy na proces przyswajania pisma przez uczniów klas I–III szkoły podstawowej

Głównym założeniem pracy jest sprawdzenie, w jaki sposób wady wymowy u dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym (klasy I–III szkoły podstawowej) determinują przyswajanie przez nie pisma. Praca ma charakter empiryczny. Przedstawione zostały w niej pytania oraz hipotezy badawcze, ponadto opisano narzędzia i metody służące do przeprowadzenia badania. Scharakteryzowano populację, która posłużyła jako grupa diagnostyczna, dokonano analizy i podsumowania wyników przeprowadzonych badań.
