Dekonstrukcja stereotypu a zrozumienie obcości

The article is a review of the book „Deutschland- und Polenbilder in der Literatur nach 1989” edited by Carsten Gansel and Monika Wolting. In the first part four main assumptions of the volume are described: 1. The presentation of historic transformations in literary texts, 2. The provocative potential of literary texts, 3. The construction of identity in narratives, 4. The construction of symbolic spaces in literary texts. According to these categories the papers of the volumes are examined. Their coherence with the main idea of the volume as well as their methodological foundation are the evaluating criteria of the review.

Poland’s accession to the European Union and the democratization of the country resulted in a change in the specificity of the Polish emigration prose. Its political dimension was subdued. The status and role of the writer-emigrant changed. Now, without the feeling of having betrayed his/her homeland or language, the writer has become a chronicler of the life of compatriots abroad and an observer of the culture of the country of settlement. The focus of the present considerations is an attempt to characterize three models according to which the description of sociological and cultural phenomena takes place. The first one covers the type of stories symptomatic of migration in which the characters are young people without complexes, curious about the world, wishing to discover it. In this case, we are dealing with intercultural texts that attempt to describe the new culture of the country of settlement and the related identity experiences. The second model uses a model present in postcolonial literature. The hero of this prose is an oppressed migrant whose “mission” is, in a sense, to conquer the new country in order to become a “colonizer” and lose the status of a “colonized” one. He/she thus stands in opposition to a foreign world and the new culture/cultures. The third variant collects polemic works in the face of both this doctrine and the post-colonial discourse, both of which, entering into dialogue with the above mentioned forms, create their own model of counter-discourse.
Rola nauczyciela w edukacji wielokulturowej i międzykulturowej na Ukrainie i w Polsce

W opracowaniu podjęto próbę ukazania roli edukacji i jej wpływu na procesy zachodzące w wielokulturowym i międzykulturowym środowisku. Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na wymagania stawiane nauczycielom, gdyż realizacja celów edukacji międzykulturowej w Polsce i na Ukrainie w dużej mierze zależy od profesjonalizmu nauczycieli, który łączy w sobie cechy nauczyciela i psychologa, kulturologa, pedagoga, menedżera edukacji, wychowawcy, koordynatora. Zadanie to jest niezwykle trudne, ponieważ do osiągnięcia tego celu niezbędni są doskonali specjaliści-nauczyciele, a co za tym idzie – ich kształcenie, a w szczególności tworzenie profesjonalnych i osobistych cech przyszłego nauczyciela z zachowaniem wymagań wielokulturowego rynku pracy.
Spory wokół obrony przez kulturę w kontekście debat na temat wielokulturowości

The main aim of this article is to introduce the concept of culture/cultural defence into the framework of current debates over multiculturalism. Culture defence is a relatively new legal strategy, which seeks to strengthen its own position as a formal strategy in criminal law, mainly in the common law system. It is based on the cognitive assumption that culture affects individuals’ perception of social reality to that extent that individuals could lack the capacity to act with the full ignorance of culturally given norms. The concept of culture defence will be juxtaposed to the different approaches to multiculturalism itself: to the concept of John Rawls’s theory of justice, to the concept of politics of difference as introduced by Charles Taylor, and to the politics of multiculturalism proposed by Will Kymlicka. This article reveals the question of legitimacy of culture defence as a crucial question bounded up with political philosophy, not exclusively embraced by the philosophy of law.
