This article is an attempt to analyse the Russian modal exponents наверно / наверноe expressing the speaker’s commitment to the truth of the proposition and its English translational equivalents. From the morphological point they are: adverbs, e.g.: presumably, probably, likely, verbs, e.g.: must, may or clauses, e.g.: I suppose, I dare say, I expect, he was convinced. The sentences with the skipped marker of epistemic modality constitute a great deal of examples in the target language. The English textual counterparts tend to sustain, decrease or increase the degree of epistemic modality compared to the original sentence.
