O relacjach między fizyką a filozofią w pismach filozoficznych Mariana Smoluchowskiego

Abstract

Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja i analiza relacji między fizyką a filozofią w pismach filozoficznych Mariana Smoluchowskiego, jednego z najwybitniejszych polskich i światowych fizyków przełomu XIX i XX w. Analizowana jest rola założeń filozoficznych w praktyce badawczej fizyków, znaczenie odkryć z dziedziny fizyki dla tradycyjnej problematyki filozoficznej, problem statusu poznawczego hipotez i teorii naukowych oraz miejsce myśli Smoluchowskiego w tradycji filozoficznej.

The aim of this article is to reconstruct and analyze the relationship between physics and philosophy in the philosophical writings of Marian Smoluchowski, one of the most outstanding Polish and world physicists of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The article analyzes the role of philosophical assumptions in the research practice of physicists, the significance of discoveries in physics for traditional philosophical issues, the problem of the cognitive status of scientific hypotheses and theories, and the place of Smoluchowski's thought in the philosophical tradition.
