The article discusses the philosophical concept of cosmicism, created by the American writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and shows how this concept works in selected poems. The main aim of the article is to pay attention to the way of revealing man’s place in the universe, according to cosmicism. The article will analyze selected poems from Nemesis and Other Poetic Works (2018). The horror motifs contained in the content and form of the cited Lovecraft’s poems will be discussed, which intensify the contrast between the vanity, limitation and exclusion of man, and the vastness and uniqueness of the universe. Man, brutally deprived of his position in the universe, is confronted with the truth about the reality, which leads him to madness and sometimes even to death.
