The review presents Andrzej Gecow’s book as an original and ambitious attempt to formulate a general theory of life using a deductive methodology modelled on the development of theories in physics. The author integrates insights from biology, information theory, chaos theory, computer simulations, and philosophy, seeking to explain the mechanisms underlying the organisation and evolution of living systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the concepts of semi-chaos and purposeful information, which are proposed as the foundations of a novel framework for understanding the processes of life.
