Z działalności Kółka Przyjaciół Muzyki (Towarzystwa Muzycznego) w Tarnowie w latach 1869–1914

The main aim of the article is to present the history of the Friends of Music Society in Tarnów (the Music Society) in the years 1869-1914. The times under discussion are related to the first period of its activities. The organization took different names throughout its history: Music Club, Music Association, Tarnów Music Society. The Statute of the Music Society in Tarnów was issued on November 4, 1869, which stated that the main goal of this institution was to establish a music school, as well as to organise music concerts and promote secular music. The society gathered mainly musicians, secondary school teachers, officers, judges and representatives of the local intelligentsia. Thanks to the involvement of the activists of the Music Society, artists such as Ignacy Jan Paderewski and Władysław Żeleński came to Tarnów and gave concerts.
