i zamordowanej ludności cywilnej, odegrał Polski
Czerwony Krzyż. Na początku okresu powojennego
bardzo dużą rolę w ustalaniu skali dokonanych zbrodni
i zabezpieczaniu miejsc pochówków odegrały organy
administracji samorządowej oraz Komisja Badania
Zbrodni Niemieckich. Organizacjami, które aktywnie
włączyły się od końca lat 40. w proces upamiętniania
ofiar były również to: Rada Ochrony Pamięci Walk
i Męczeństwa oraz Związek Bojowników Walk o Wolność
i Demokrację. Po okresie transformacji ustrojowej
w 1989 r. wiele dotychczas przemilczanych lub
zapomnianych wydarzeń zostało przywróconych
pamięci społecznej. Szczególnie duże zasługi wniósł
Światowy Związek Żołnierzy Armii Krajowej oraz Polski
Związek Byłych Więźniów Politycznych Hitlerowskich
Więzień i Obozów Koncentracyjnych. Podjęcie szeregu
nowych inicjatyw nie wypełniło jednak przestrzeni
publicznej koniecznymi upamiętnieniami. Pomniki lub
inne formy memoratywne wciąż powstają by uczcić
pamięć kolejnych jednostek lub grup, które pozbawiono
życia w tragicznych okolicznościach w okresie II wojny
światowej.
The process of commemorating victims of the Second World War in the area of the present Tomaszów and Zamość poviats began in the summer of 1944. It should be emphasized, that from the very beginning of the war, very important role played in documenting the fate of the fallen soldiers and murdered civilians, the Polish Red Cross. At the beginning of the post-war period, the local government administration and the Commission for the Investigation of German Crimes played a very important role in determining the scale of the crimes committed and securing the burial places. Organizations that actively participated in the process of commemorating the victims from the end of the 1940s were: the Council for the Protection of Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom and the Union of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy. After the period of the political transformation in 1989, many previously concealed or forgotten events have been restored into the social memory. The World Union of Home Army Soldiers and the Polish Union of Former Political Prisoners of Hitler's Prisons and Concentration Camps made particularly great contributions. However, the number of new initiatives did not fill the public space with the necessary commemorations. Monuments or other forms are still being created to honor the memory of individuals or groups who lost their lives in tragic circumstances during World War II.
