The author wants to thank the Museum fur Archaologie Schloss Gottorf in der Stiftung Schleswig-Holsteinischer Landesmuseen (ALM) and the Archaologisches Landesamt Schleswig-Holstein (ALSH ) for the permission to examine the archaeological material from Gaarz, for insight into their data-base and archives and for the permission to use their pictures. Cordial thanks go to the supervisors of his master’s thesis, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Muller and Prof. Dr. Claus von Carnap-Bornheim and also to Dr. Ralf Bleile (ALM), Eicke Siegloff (ALSH ) and Inga Sommerfeld (ALM ), who were of great support during the work on the material from Gaarz. A special mention must be made of Klaus Evers (Oldenburg in Holstein), who gave insight into his knowledge of the region and his collection. Further thanks go to Stephan Meinhardt, Michaela Schimmer, Dr. Dietrich Meier and Dorothea Feiner, who provided the author with important hints and information.pl_PL.UTF-8
On several occasions during the 20th c. archaeological finds were brought to light at Gaarz. A great part of the finds from this site in Ostholstein (Germany) hints at a Slavic settlement there. During surveys with the metal detector from the year 2012 onwards, a steadily growing mass of metal finds was uncovered. Some of these are of high quality and attest to wealth which exceeds the scope of merely rural settlements. In this paper some of the archaeological material is presented and the function of this “new” site in the vicinity of the central place of Starigard/Oldenburg is discussed.pl_PL.UTF-8
