The aim of the article is to present the Internet among other media and information sources in the candidates’ college selection process, the types of information sources and the information sought and used by the candidates. The article also highlighted the importance of the Internet for students during their studies (with particular attention paid to the objectives of its use). The analysis of secondary and primary sources leads to a clear conclusion: the Internet has now a priority and constantly growing importance as a medium and a source of formal and informal information for the candidates. The Internet is also (along with the television) the main source of general information for students and key source related to the studying. The Internet is unfortunately also indispensable source of materials and cribs sheets at examinations. In the article there are presented the results of research that could provide important guidelines for universities in the decisions regarding the allocation of financial resources to promote the universities in the recruitment process as well as in the choice of channels of communication with students and content of messages addressed to them.
