Abstract

Information is presented as a conceptual bridge between physics and biology. The author argues that the organisation of living systems cannot be adequately explained solely in terms of energy balance. Information and the regulation of biological processes also play a fundamental role, while remaining fully consistent with the principles of thermodynamics.
