Pozycja Metaphysics – symbol – landscape. On the motif of ruins in Caspar David Friedrich’s painting(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2016-12) Haake, MichałThe article proposes a new reading of the symbolic and metaphysical meaning of three paintings by Caspar David Friedrich with the motif of church ruins. The restoration of The Abbey in the Oakwood of 1809, carried out between 2013 and 2015, proved of particularly great help in this respect. The article is a polemic against interpretations that choose to depart from the symbolism of individual motifs. Instead, the author argues, the basis for symbolism should be sought in the structural relations that connect individual elements, i.e. the visual form of the painting. Accordingly, in consonance with the way symbols were understood after 1800, symbolism is seen as being linked to the sensory aspect of the symbolizing object. In addition, the ability of symbols to send off towards the extrasensory, the ideal, and the transcendent is rooted in the relationship between the world depicted in the paintings (a collection of motifs distributed in space) and the plane of the painting, understood, following the existential hermeneutic theory of art, as a value that is experienced in the process of perception, but is distinct from the depicted world and transcends it.Pozycja O sposobach przedstawiania pojęć matematycznych w komunikacji specjalistycznej na przykładzie całki(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Mikołajczyk, MagdalenaThe paper deals with the problem of various ways of representing concepts in specialist communication. In specialist communication in the field of mathematics we are dealing with a situation in which the concepts which are the basis of specialist knowledge are abstract. Therefore, in communication with the recipient, the problem of their representation arises. It turns out that they can be represented in a number of ways not seen outside the field of this science. In turn, the very choice of concrete representations may seem to be closely related to the communicative situation. Consequently, communication in mathematics turns out to be very complex in terms of the medium used to express content. This is because it can be represented by a word, a phrase or a metaphor, as well as by a symbol, a longer symbolic notation, or even a drawing. Such a wide range of various representations is a peculiar phenomenon in terminology, which is an important part of specialist communication, because it expands the understanding of a term as a sign, especially a linguistic one, with new, often non-literal material. The research touches upon an important problem of what unusual means a sender of a specialist text may use to present a term. The research material consists of popular representations of integrals, appearing in mathematical texts of varying levels of specialisation.Pozycja Украинофильство как примечательная черта медиаобраза польско-украинского поэта Томаша Падуры(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Баландина, НадеждаThe article shows the specific features of the formation of Tomasz Padura’s media image and its transformation into a symbol of the Polish-Ukrainian unity. It has been proven that the attention of the Ukrainian mass media is concentrated on the most weighty and outstanding facts of the poet’s life and work. Those facts represent several informative aspects: narrow biographical, ideological, creative, memorial, and futuristic. Each of those aspects has its content aimed at the melioration of Tomasz Padura’s image as an exemplary Polish Ukrainophile, a symbol of the Polish-Ukrainian unity. The symbolization of this image has several functions: the historical-typological one allowing to trace the main stages of the image transformation; the methodological one which stresses its significance for the contemporaries; the communicative one which ensures the continuous attention to the poet, and the marketing function promoting Tomasz Padura’s name as a brand from the point of view of the commercial success.
