Pozycja Konterfekt polsko-litewskich zbliżeń w poezji Wacława Potockiego („Ogród nie plewiony”, „Moralia”)(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Borkowski, AndrzejThe paper deals with less well-known poetry of Wacław Potocki, which concerns Polish and Lithuanian relations. The poems show the multicoloured picture of social and political tensions between the Lithuanians and the Poles. A satiric tone and the moral high ground prevail in Potocki’s poems. Stable relations between Poland and Lithuania are perceived by the writer as the key factor for safety and development of the common country. The writings sometimes present a critical attitude of the poet towards the separatist tendency of Lithuania, and they also reveal the poet’s pride in belonging to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.Pozycja Na marginesie edycji Baldego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2014) Pieczyński, MaciejTwo early modern Polish translations of “Poema de vanitate mundi” by Jakob Balde edited by Maria Kozłowska is an important publication from the perspective of research into Baroque religious poetry, especially the Saxon times. The popularity of Balde’s poem in late Baroque can be seen not only in its subsequent editions, but also in the references to it in the works of the contemporary religious poets, including Dominik Rudnicki and Karol Mikołaj Juniewicz. In the introduction to this edition the author presents Balde as a Jesuit poet, who subordinates his writing to didactic and moralistic objectives, but at the same time strives to engage the reader’s senses, following the principles of Ignatian meditation.Pozycja Obrazy biczowania Chrystusa w wybranych mesjadach pasyjnych z XVII wieku(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2014) Drożdżewicz, MonikaMy paper addresses the ways of presenting the Passion of Christ in the 17th century Polish passion messiads. Concentrating on the images of the flagellation of Christ in the narrative poems of Kasper Miaskowski, Abraham Rożniatowski, Wacław Potocki and Wespazjan Kochowski, I analyze the relation of the motifs used by them to the exegetic, the mystic, and the apocryphal traditions. Respectful of their original context, my interpretation of the fragments is supported by a thorough analysis of their structure and use of rhetoric devices. My research allows me to conclude that in order to approach the mysteries of faith, the authors of the messiads used symbolic language as a living faith tradition.Pozycja Prognostyki w świetle wiary i rozumu. Z religijnych aspektów "Informacyi matematycznej" Wojciecha Bystrzonowskiego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2014) Raubo, GrzegorzThe article is devoted to criticism of prophecies presented by Wojciech Bystrzonowski, an encyclopaedist and a science popularizer, in his work “Informacyja matematyczna” [“Mathematical Information”] (1743, 1749). The author discusses prophecies of sorcerers, physiognomy, palmistry, prophetic dreams and astrological predictions. He examines the cases of combining magical practices with religious beliefs, which he regards as dangerous signs of spreading superstitions. He also shows that prophecy cannot be compatible with faith and fundamental principles of rational reasoning. Furthermore, he emphasizes that in the critical evaluation of prophecy a Jesuit principle of discernment of spirits can be applied. The issues covered in his work are characteristic of the atmosphere of the intellectual change that took place at the turn of the Baroque and the Enlightenment.Pozycja Przed Bożym Sądem… Prawo z śmiercią, aniołami i niebem, abo Kazanie o Wniebowzięciu Panny Naświętszej Samuela Brzeżewskiego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2016) Dybek, DariuszSamuel Brzeżewski is a forgotten Polish Baroque preacher. There are three extant sermons by him (published 1640–1645) and a biography of the blessed Michał Giedroyc edited by him. Although the sermons are not popular, they are interesting as they represent the so-called Conceptismo of Polish homiletics. One of the sermons is dedicated to a late nobleman, J. Pucniewski, who is compared to an olive tree. The other two sermons relate to the Blessed Virgin. "Zaciąg…" deals with the search for the best court for Virgin Mary, which consists of sinners and the suffering. The third one, "Prawo z śmiercią, aniołami i niebem…" ["The trial with death, angels and Heaven, or the sermon of the Assumption of the Virgin"] was written in commemoration of the Assumption of the Virgin. It describes the trial between the people and Heaven. The preacher is the prosecutor, the faithful are the witnesses, and God is the ultimate judge. Referring to the Bible, the Antiquity and writers of early Christianity, Brzeżewski created an absorbing, though not flawless, sermon using an unusual concept.Pozycja „Tyś kształt człeka nad insze stworzenia ozdobił”. Dobro stworzenia i zło grzechu w pieśniach psalmicznych Niepróżnującego próżnowania Wespazjana Kochowskiego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2016) Gołębiowski, MichałThe study is devoted to the issues of eulogy of the world and contempt of the temporal and sinful condition of man based on “psalmic cantos” in "Niepróżnujące próżnowanie" ["Not Idling Idleness"] by Wespazjan Kochowski. As I try to prove, the religious attitude of the Sarmatian poet indicates continuity of patristic tradition, especially the so-called “golden era” of the Fathers of the Church (turn of the fourth and fifth centuries). Kochowski’s theological vision contained in the song "Everything from Heaven" and in the poetic series "To the Penitent" is based on the dichotomy between the original perfection of creation and the need for God’s healing grace.
