Pozycja Emigrant wobec polskości. Literackie prowokacje Mariana Pankowskiego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2011) Pasterska, JolantaThe basic idea of writings by Marian Pankowski refers to the attitude of rebellious artist: independent author deeply convinced of his own value, writer constantly on search for his most suitable literary form. Literary provocations by Pankowski are treated as the expression of discontent to stereotypical images not only of such concepts as homeland and exile, but also religion and Western civilization. Polemic with history, Romanticism and religion, as well as unrestrained eroticism, are all perceived as an attempt to free the artistic individuality limited by obsolete forms and masks. Demythologization of Polish emigration – through exposing Pankowski’s compatriots who imitate the tradition of romantic post-insurrection émigrés – serves the same purpose. True Polishness is associated by Pankowski with the pattern remembered from his childhood: simplicity unaffected by politics, ideology, artificial pathos and hypocrisy. Opposition to this pattern is described in the images of Polishness abroad, associated with religious and political trashy meetings that commonly made use of symbols such as Black Madonna of Częstochowa and the Great Emigration. Pankowski accepts the role of an outsider alienated from the groups of both artists in Poland and emigres in order to provoke Poles to discuss the subject matter of Polishness itself. However, in his struggle against any examples of hypocrisy Pankowski does not expose the very source of his rebellion and from his extraordinarily vivid and carefully adjusted literary descriptions one cannot draw any moral. As a result, his experimental writings exceed and violate all the boundaries (political, literary, genre, moral) and thus cannot be undisputedly classified. His works have as many enthusiasts as they have adversaries. Undoubtedly, his art meets the basic requirement of aesthetics and does not leave its reader indifferent and unmoved.Pozycja Implozja (nowej) prozy(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Pasterska, JolantaIt is a fact that, since the turning point of 1989, there has been a discussion on the face of new prose. A specialist in literature, a critic and a reader face two main questions: what kind of prose it is and how to read it. In the long term, in turn, questions concerning the ‘trend’ and the quest for new prose arise. In order to attempt to answer these questions, one needs to pay attention to the causes and source/sources of the changes which can be found ‘outside’ the literature, and which are related to cultural, psychological, social and sociological transpositions. It is also important to determine the degree and direction of writing dependent on them. The authors of the papers gathered in this volume have portrayed a wide panorama of new prose and paid attention to both promising and less sparkling debuts. They have focused on the transformations of Polish prose, its aesthetic, ethical and cognitive values.Pozycja Literatura polska 1918–2018. Narracje, dyskursy, dzieła(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2018) Pasterska, Jolanta; Uliasz, StanisławThe year when the eighth number of “Themes and Contexts” is published, is unique because we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s sovereignty. It is also an opportunity to look at the contractual century of the “new” Polish literature. In this context of “duration and changeability”, it is important to discuss the work of outstanding poets and writers of the last century, as well as interpretations of important works. This is a convenient time both for reappraisals and for new interpretations seen from a variable, literary perspective. Thinking about Polish literature in 1918-2018, we had in mind the attempts to establish the hierarchy of the most important literary phenomena in the context of political, constitutional and transformational changes. These issues are discussed in the first group of texts entitled Synthesis and reappraisals. Another group of problems connected with the subject of (Post)modern reading introduces the circle of detailed considerations. The research of Polish literature of the last century is conducted by the authors in two ways. In the first one, the researchers adopted a comparative perspective and analyzed new works compiled with works from the interwar period. The second variant is dominated by the synchronous perspective, in which the authors’ attention is focused on the originality of the latest works and contemporary methodologies of studying a literary work and “modern” contexts (social-media, pop-culture, hypertext, blogosphere, etc.). The study of contemporary literature in the context of the works of the past century has resulted in interesting literary and cultural findings. This section, titled Views, is a voice of researchers asking for the restoration of forgotten literary writings, artists (Gniatczyński), single works. The articles collected in the volume authorize the conclusion that these conventional chronological frames cover many literary phenomena, as well as the names of writers who created and create an image of Polish literature of the last century.Pozycja Modele polskiej prozy „unijnej”. Próba klasyfikacji(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Pasterska, JolantaPoland’s accession to the European Union and the democratization of the country resulted in a change in the specificity of the Polish emigration prose. Its political dimension was subdued. The status and role of the writer-emigrant changed. Now, without the feeling of having betrayed his/her homeland or language, the writer has become a chronicler of the life of compatriots abroad and an observer of the culture of the country of settlement. The focus of the present considerations is an attempt to characterize three models according to which the description of sociological and cultural phenomena takes place. The first one covers the type of stories symptomatic of migration in which the characters are young people without complexes, curious about the world, wishing to discover it. In this case, we are dealing with intercultural texts that attempt to describe the new culture of the country of settlement and the related identity experiences. The second model uses a model present in postcolonial literature. The hero of this prose is an oppressed migrant whose “mission” is, in a sense, to conquer the new country in order to become a “colonizer” and lose the status of a “colonized” one. He/she thus stands in opposition to a foreign world and the new culture/cultures. The third variant collects polemic works in the face of both this doctrine and the post-colonial discourse, both of which, entering into dialogue with the above mentioned forms, create their own model of counter-discourse.Pozycja Otwarcie Centrum Języka i Kultury Polskiej w Uniwersytecie Mateja Bela w Bańskiej Bystrzycy (Słowacja)(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2012) Pasterska, JolantaThe text includes a report on the opening ceremony of the Centre of Polish Language and Culture which took place on October 9, 2012 at Matej Bel University in Bańska Bystrzyca (Słowacja).Pozycja Pasjans na dwóch(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2013) Pasterska, JolantaThe monograph entitled "A New York Solitaire. The Polish Institute of Arts and Science of America. Jan Lechoń. Kazimierz Wierzyński. A Study of Selected Aspects of Its Activity in the Period 1939-1969" by Beata Dorosz is the outcome of a long-term study and laborious preliminary research which document the earliest years of the activity of the Polish Institute of Arts and Science of America and its two major personalities – Jan Lechoń and Kazimierz Wierzyński. Although the book is characterized by a documentary nature and is archive-oriented, full of dates, facts, lists and names, the author has managed to attract the readers’ attention by her lively narration, witty comments, titbits and anecdotes. Due to these, the readers are not only provided with reliable information on the activity of the Institute, but are also introduced to the atmosphere which accompanied the artistic and cultural life of the Polish community in America. Social reshuffling, personal animosities, diplomatic efforts, open quarrels and, finally, the ideas for the ‘dollar whip-rounds’, or generous donations for Polish artists-refugees, complement the colourful story about the people and organizations in emigration. At the same time, a specialist in literature will find here much quality information which illustrates the critical and scientific activity of Lechoń and Wierzyński. Liberally quoted reviews, discussions and lectures confirm their dynamic activity on the account of Polish culture. In fact, the compendium offered by Beata Dorosz delimits new directions of the research into the emigration milieu (and not only) of New York, and provides valuable contexts, in which the interpretation of Jan Lechoń’s and Kazimierz Wierzyński’s works reveal additional meanings.Pozycja Pożegnanie profesora Krzysztofa Dmitruka(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2020) Pasterska, Jolanta; Stanisz, Marek; Pasterski, JanuszPozycja Profesor Andrzej Busza laureatem Nagrody Literackiej Stowarzyszenia Pisarzy Polskich za Granicą za rok 2013(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2013) Pasterska, JolantaThe text informs about Professor Andrzej Busza awarded the 2013 Literary Award of the Association of Polish Writers Abroad.Pozycja Profesor Florian Śmieja – pożegnanie(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Pasterska, JolantaPozycja Profesor Florian Śmieja doktorem honoris causa Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Pasterska, JolantaThe article presents report from the ceremony of awarding professor Florian Śmieja the highest academic dignity – the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Wrocław for his contribution to the development of Polish science and literature and the Spanish studies.Pozycja Słowo wstępne(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2011) Pasterska, JolantaArtykuł jest wprowadzeniem do 6 numeru „Zeszytów Naukowych Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego. Seria Filologiczna. Pozycja Spory o powieść w dyskusjach krytycznoliterackich drugiej emigracji niepodległościowej(Wydawnictwo Poznańskiego Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Nauk, 2021-12) Pasterska, JolantaThe polemic presented in the work concerns the clash of swords over the concept of the novel led by Second Migration Over Independence circles and had two main aspects. First, in the context of so-called literary engagement and resulted directly from the goals of Polish Migration and the associated conceptual and moral aspects. The other aspect of the conflict was more universal in nature and was tied to discussion of the novel per se – its greatest possible ‘largeness’ for it to answer the challenges set by a postwar world amidst ruin. In the context of this worldview there occurs both a longing for the Polish migration ‘masterpiece’ (Epopee in Exile) and the polemic around the form of the novel. The discussion of standpoints is set against a historical-literary outline examined from three main perspectives: generational, aesthetic and that of worldview.Pozycja Tęskniąc za wielogłosowością. Twórczość poetycka, prozatorska i epistolarna Anny Frajlich (i nie tylko…)(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2017) Pasterska, JolantaOn October 24-25, 2016 the University of Rzeszów hosted the International Conference “Here I am / I inhabit my own life”. Poetry, prose and epistolary writings of Anna Frajlich, whose honored guest was famous Polish poet, writer, essayist, editor, lecturer of Polish language and literature at Columbia University in New York City. The aim of meeting was to describe Frajlich’s individual poetics, discuss her place in literary tradition, analyze a variety of her styles, motives, topics and toposes used. The speakers were also interested in the biography of the poet perceived in the contexts of such cultural and methodological notions as identity, emigration, alienation or re-rooting. The conference was organized by Institute of Polish Philology of the University of Rzeszów, Department of Theory and Anthropology of Literature, Workshop of Research and Record of Literary Culture, and Polish Philology Faculty of Jagiellonian University in Kraków.Pozycja Zagraniczne istnienie literatury polskiej(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2020) Pasterska, Jolanta; Luboń, Arkadiusz; Wyrembelski, MarcinInterest in reception of Polish literature translated into foreign languages has increased in recent years among not only academic researchers but also publishers, literary critics and readers as well. Both successes of contemporary Polish writers abroad and the endeavors of cultural institutions aimed at promotion of Polish literature in other countries inspire discussions centered on the issue of selection and adaptation of the most representative, unique and/or attractive for foreign readers texts, originally written in Polish. The tenth issue of „Tematy i Konteksty” also addresses these questions, collecting papers focused, among others, on modern translator’s cultural role and status, standard or unconventional techniques and methods applied in literary translation, particular transfers of various artistic texts from Polish into other languages and modes of their reception within target cultures. Articles collected in the volume answer numerous questions related, for instance, to the ways in which foreign readers respond to writings by Polish authors or to the fields of discourse texts of Polish origin enter as an effect of the set of translational transformations. These transformations result from a variety of factors, such as translator’s idea of equivalence, his/her professional and social position, editorial strategies or even detailed choices of lexical items crucial for the preconceived meaning of the text. The articles discussing and analyzing such issues unveil the secret of supralocal successes of certain Polish writers and clearly indicate the importance of translator’s work for their achievements.Pozycja Zaproszenie do publikacji w piątym numerze „Tematów i Kontekstów” pt.
