Pozycja A Cucuteni-Vădastra Type Dagger from Site 26 at Strzyżów (S-E Poland) Attests to the Intercultural Landscape of the Eneolithic Eastern Carpathians(the Authors, 2023-12-29) Zakościelna, Anna; Adamczak, Kamil; Garbacz-Klempka, Aldona; Kowalski, ŁukaszIn the mid-1990s, a copper dagger of the Cucuteni-Vădastra type was found in the Lublin-Volhynian culture cemetery at Strzyżów, south-eastern Poland. The dagger was customized as a pendant and deposited in an inhumation burial that contained the remains of an adult male and over ten other grave offerings dating to the 2nd quarter of the 4th millennium BC. This paper presents the results of archaeological and metallographic examinations of the dagger from Strzyżów and relates them to a wider cultural context of the region. The results of our study show that the dagger has no signs of use-wear, and furthermore indicate that the metal used for its production is fahlore copper which could have been sourced from the Slovak Ore Mountains. The two other Cucuteni-Vădastra type daggers that were discovered in the vicinity of Strzyżów mark the Western Volhynian Upland as a distinct cluster of the Cucuteni-Vădastra dagger industry in Europe. Furthermore, the daggers from Poland evidence a close relationship between the Lublin-Volhynian culture and the Cucuteni-Tripillia complex and attest to the intercultural landscape of the Eastern Carpathians region during the EneolithicPozycja An elite burial from the Copper Age: Grave 8 at the cemetery of the Lublin-Volhynian culture at Site 2 in Książnice, Świętokrzyskie Province(Fundacja Rzeszowskiego Ośrodka Archeologicznego, 2014) Wilk, StanisławThe paper describes an inhumation burial (Grave 8) discovered at the cemetery of the Lublin-Volhynian culture at Site 2 in Książnice, Świętokrzyskie Province, in August 2008. A skeleton of an adultus woman, lying in a flexed position on the left side, with the skull directed towards the south, was discovered at the depth of 55–60 cm in a partly destroyed rectangular burial pit. The unusually rich grave goods consisted of ten ornaments made from copper wire (two necklaces with spectacle-shaped pendants, two bracelets, two earrings and two rings), a chocolate flint retouched blade and a blade, as well as fragments of two clay vessels: a pear-shaped amphora and a pear-shaped goblet. The analysed burial is a perfect example of changes taking place in the social structure of the younger Danubian cultures at the turn of the 5th and the 4th millennia BC. It shows that the elite controlling trade exchange and the distribution of prestige objects in the Lublin-Volhynian culture included also women of high social standing. Pozycja Remarks on using tools with truncated edges in the Lublin-Volhynian culture on the example of materials from site no. 7 in Las Stocki, Puławy County(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Mączyński, PiotrThis article tackles the issue of the use of truncations by the population of the Lublin-Volhynian culture. The corpus of sources for their analyses is a group of 27 tools discovered during the research of the Las Stocki settlement, site 7. Microscopic observation made it possible to separate a considerable group of artefacts bearing use-wear traces on their surfaces. The most numerous were items used for processing plant material and wood. Other activities, like processing stone/pottery, hide, and other unspecified materials were recorded sporadically. Another research problem was the attempt to reconstruct the biographies of the stone tools. The analyses indicated that the materials were only partly useful in the research. This was caused by the poor preservation state of the artefacts and of the recorded use-wear traces. Tackling this issue gave the best results in the case of items used for cutting siliceous plants, which undoubtedly resulted from the distinct character of such use-wear patterns.Pozycja The Mysterious Copper Battle Axe from the Castle Museum in Sandomierz(Muzeum Okręgowe w Rzeszowie, 2023-12) Rajpold, WojciechIn the Castle Museum in Sandomierz, there is a small copper battle axe whose place and circumstances of discovery are unknown. It is only known that this item was found in the vicinity of Sandomierz. The discussed artefact represents the Nógrádmarcal type, characterized by a distinctive haft, a ring near the haft hole, two opposing blades/arms, and a lowered horizontal arm in relation to the apex of the haft opening and the vertical blade. This form is particularly prevalent in the northern Carpathian region, especially in present-day Czech Republic and Slovakia. Additionally, similar specimens are also recorded in northern Hungary and Romania. In formal terms, this item corresponds to the C2 type according to Julie Heeb’s typology, which is numerous in the western part of the Carpathians, especially in the Czech Republic. The majority of them were discovered in contexts unfavourable to chronological studies. It is not excluded that these specimens survived until the younger Eneolithic period. It seems that the safest way to date them is to the turn of the 5 th /4 th millennium BC or the beginning of the 4 th , and associate them with late influences of the Polgar cycle. The presented artefact is most likely to be seen as an import from the south-western or southern direction into the environment of the Lublin-Volhynian culture. It is another copper artefact from the Eneolithic period discovered in the Sandomierz Upland, indicating lively contacts between these areas and those located further south and southwest.Pozycja Wyniki badań geofizycznych oraz weryfikacyjnych badań wykopaliskowych na stanowisku nr 53 w Sadowiu, pow. opatowski(Muzeum Okręgowe w Rzeszowie, 2023-12) Pasterkiewicz, Wojciech; Tokarczyk, TomaszThe aim of this article is to assess the possibility of using magnetometry to identify immovable features at the multicultural site No. 53 in Sadowie, Opatów district. A gradientometer device was used for the study, which measures the degree of variation in the Earth’s magnetic field. The research was conducted on an area of 1.25 ha within the southwestern part of the site. The obtained results were then verified in the course of excavation work. Five immovable features reflecting clear magnetic signals were exposed in the planned archaeological excavations. The excavation research provided insights into the nature of the site, documenting its extent and layout, among other things.
