Pozycja Benign endotracheal tumor (hamartoma) mimicking bronchial asthma(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2024-09) Kaziród, Tomasz; Tokarski, Sławomir; Kaznowska, Ewa; Rzeszutko-Grabowska, MagdalenaIntroduction and aim. The most common benign tumor of the lung is hamartoma. In many cases, it is a spherical tumor, located peripherally, often without clinical symptoms. Predominantly it is found accidentally during radiological examination. In some cases the tumor reaches a significant size in the lung parenchyma or in the lumen of the bronchi or trachea. Then, symptoms such as cough, dyspnea, wheezing, less commonly hemoptysis, and chest pain may occur. In addition, tumors located endobronchial or endotracheal may cause recurrent pneumonia or mimic obstructive diseases of the lower respiratory tract such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or bronchial asthma. We present the case of a patient with an endotracheal tumor mimicking bronchial asthma. Description of the case. A 53-year-old male was taking bronchodilators and inhaled steroids for several months. The baseline chest radiograph showed no abnormalities. Spirometry suggested an obstruction of respiratory flow in the central or upper airways. The lack of improvement after asthma treatment required an extension of the diagnosis. Computed tomography allowed accurate visualization of the tumor lesion of the trachea, which was significantly obstructing its lumen, and resection was carried out. Conclusion. Our case demonstrates that tracheal tumors can present symptoms similar to respiratory tract diseases. In unresolved cases, spirometry and computed tomography are helpful in proper diagnosis.Pozycja Bladder Mullerianosis – a case report(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Ostańska, Elżbieta; Aebisher, David; Kaznowska, Ewa; Bartusik-Aebisher, DorotaIntroduction. Bladder mullerianosis is a rare and proliferative lesion that contains at least two types of ectopic Mullerian tissue in its wall. Aim. To present case of bladder mullerianosis. Description of case. The text contains a description of a clinical case of a 50-year-old woman admitted to a gynecological ward due to diarrheal symptoms and abdominal pain. In a CT examination of the abdominal cavity with contrast, within the posterior left-sided wall of the bladder a 43x25mm proliferative lesion suggestive of neoplastic character was revealed. Transurethral resection of the lesion (TURB) was performed. Histopathology revealed endosalpingiosis with small endocervical foci. The picture of hyperplasia met the criterion of mullerianosis. Conclusion. Bladder Mullerianosis is a very rare disease that occurs mainly in women of reproductive age. It has very good prognosis. It is important to differentiate the lesion with malignant tumor. The basis for the diagnosis is the histopathological examination of the lesion tissues taken during the surgery.Pozycja Epidemiology of breast cancer in Podkapackie voivodship(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Gustalik, Joanna; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Ostańska, Elżbieta; Przyczyna, Piotr; Osuchowski, Michał; Aebisher, David; Galiniak, Sabina; Kaznowska, EwaIntroduction. Breast cancer is the second most prevalent reason for cancer deaths after lung cancer. Incidence rates have increased worldwide. Aim. To present epidemiology of breast cancer in Podkapackie voivodship. Material and methods. This analysis was performed using a systematic literature search. Results. In the Podkarpackie voivodship up until 2014, the incidence rate of female breast cancer was rising and in 2015 it dropped by 68 cases. Even though the survival rate is increasing, it is still one of the leading causes of cancer deaths placing second after lung cancer. Conclusion. Mortality rate, unfortunately, rose gradually. This shows that even though there is a National Health Program aiming at breast cancer awareness and prevention, it is still not enough to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths.Pozycja Fibromatosis-like spindle-cell metaplastic carcinoma of the breast – a case report(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Osuchowski, Michał; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Kaznowska, Ewa; Aebisher, DavidIntroduction. Clear cell carcinoma, not otherwise specified/hyalinising clear cell carcinoma of the salivary gland (HCCC) is a malignancy that arises in minor salivary glands. It rarely leads to distant metastases or cancer-related death but has the potential for recurrence and focal metastases. Aim. A case is reported. Description of the case. A 72 years old female patient has reported to the Clinic of Otolaryngology with a tongue lesion. The patient had no history of malignancy. The lymph node has been surgically removed for further examination. Cords and nests of clear cells and cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm in a hyalinized stroma were identified within the lymph node. After the diagnosis the patient has been transferred to another Oncology Hospital for further treatment. Conclusion. The diagnosis of clear cell carcinoma may be challenging because many of it‘s features frequently overlap with other salivary gland lesions.Pozycja Imaging methods of early detection and screening for breast cancer. A review(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Gustalik, Joanna; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Aebisher, David; Kaznowska, EwaIntroduction. Breast cancer is the most frequent neoplasm among women. That is the reason why scientists all over the world are attempting to improve early detection methods of this particular malignancy. Aim. The most common and most widely used examination methods for screening for and detecting breast cancer is presented herein. Material and methods. This review was performed according to systematic literature search of three major bibliographic databases. Results. Available data suggest that incidence and mortality in high-resource countries has been declining whereas incidence and mortality in low-resource countries has been increasing. Conclusion. The role of a physician is to select the most suitable one for each patient in order to obtain the best result. No matter the method however, between 2005 and 2011, the 5-year relative survival was found to be 89%. This is thought to be due to both the increase in utilization of population-wide screening, as well as advances in treatment.Pozycja Imaging studies of kidney cancer(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Przyczyna, Piotr; Aebisher, David; Gustalik, Joanna; Galiniak, Sabina; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Kaznowska, EwaIntroduction. There are over 1,100,000 cases of prostate carcinoma diagnosed every year around the world. Imaging examinations have to be introduced to accurately stage, and therefore properly treat this disease. This review concentrates on advantages and disadvantages of different imaging methods. Material and methods. The literature search was performed. Results. Imaging methods serve specific goals. TRUS is recommended for acquiring biopsy specimen due to high accessibility and low cost of the examination. Conclusion. The best tool for staging prostate carcinoma and finding suspicious lesions when attempting second biopsy is mpMRI or bpMRI.Pozycja The use of imaging tests to obtain optimal margins in breast surgery(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Ostańska, Elżbieta; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Gustalik, Joanna; Aebisher, David; Galiniak, Sabina; Kaznowska, EwaIntroduction. The proper negative margins (R0) breadth in the breast - conserving surgery for invasive breast cancer (IBC) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is very important. The presence positive surgical margins (R1) is associated with the necessity of reoperation. It delays the adjuvant therapy and psychologically burdens the patient. The re-operation increases the costs of treatment. The introduction of mammography (MMG) increased detection of DCIS by 20%. With the increase in malignancy, cancer detection decreases in MMG, inversely in MRI groving. Effective preoperative and intraoperative diagnosis aims to reduce the number of R1 resections. Aim. The size of the tumor next to its biology, determines the clinical course of the tumor. The accurate analysis of imaging tests is important. Material and methods. This analysis was performed using a systematic literature search. Results. Adequate surgical margins in breast cancer surgery for breast cancer have been reviewed. It is important to know if the cancer is multifocal and what the extent of the tumor is. Conclusion. The adequacy of margins is important for adjusting the volume of excision. It is avoiding unnecessary resection of healthy breast tissue. It is essential for a good cosmetic result and the local recurrence rate. The combination of breast MRI with conventional breast imaging resulted in the lover rate of the R1 resectios and the lower rate of the re-operation.Pozycja Treating kidney cancer – a review(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2020) Przyczyna, Piotr; Aebisher, David; Bartusik-Aebisher, Dorota; Kaznowska, EwaIntroduction.
