International transfer of technology means spread (diffusion) of technology from the place of origin to other markets around the world. One method of technology transfer is the realization of foreign direct investment (FDI) by transnational corporations (TNCs). The technology transfer via FDI consists of: (1) the transfer of intrinsic values in the form of goods constituting the contribution in kind of investors into the implemented enterprise and of import of the supply associated with the implementation of an investment project; (2) transfer of intangible assets in the form of the technical-organizational knowledge protected with patents, as well as of the knowledge not being a subject of the legal protection, but playing the important role in the development of the enterprise; (3) investments in human capital which consist among others of improving the qualifications of employees thanks to organising trainings of different kind and employing domestic specialists. The completion of the international technology transfer through TNCs takes place in two basic ways, i.e. through: (1) transfer of technology within the enterprise to its foreign branches, which means that the technology remains the property of TNC and is under its control (internalization); (2) making the technology available to other entities (externality).
