Opis
This book is a summary of my many years of studies on the Funnel Beaker culture in Ukraine. I began my work in 2005 by researching issues related to settlement in the upper San and upper Dnister interfluve. In 2008 I received from Prof. Jan Machnik, a proposal to prepare the characteristics of the settlement in the remaining parts of western Ukraine – Roztocze, Volhynia, Podolia and parts of Polesie, in areas which had earlier been only poorly researched with regard to the Funnel Beaker culture. The completion of this would not have been possible without the kindness of many people. First of all, I would like to thank Prof. Jan Machnik for inspiration, academic supervision, and many-sided, friendly assistance. It was thanks to the Professor that I had an opportunity to participate in the research of the Polish-Ukrainian archaeological expedition in the Upper Dnister basin. I could get acquainted with its results and take part in the excavations conducted at several sites which were key for the problems of the Funnel Beaker culture and the Neolithic, such as Bykiv on the Drohobych Upland(years 2005–2006, 2009) or Kotoryny on the Dnister river near Zhydachiv (years 2009–2010). In my work, I used archival materials that can be found in museums in Western Ukraine and Poland. At this point, I would like to thank for the opportunity to read these materials, and the opportunity of getting acquainted with the typescripts Prof. Oleksandr Sytnyk, Dr. Hryhorii Okhrimenko, Dr. Taras Tkachuk, Dr. Vitalii Konopla, Andrii Bardetskyi, Ihor Markus, Dmytro Pavliv, Volodymyr Petehyrych, Oleksandr and Svitlana Pozikhovskyis, Ihor Prynada, Bohdan Chaikovskyi, Dr. Volodymyr Tsyhylyk, Prof. Leonid Matskevyi, Vitalii Tkach, and Dmytro Verteletskyi, Prof. Vira Hupalo, Dr. Natalia Bulyk. I would like to thank Dr. Andrii Havinskyi for his kind help and support. In this study, I also had an opportunity to use some small but important collections which are part of national collections. I would like to thank Adam Kostek and Adam Kulesza for making them available to me. I would like to thank my colleague, Paweł Fekner, for his assistance with the technical aspects of my work. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Prof. Janusz Kruk and Prof. Małgorzata Rybicka, who undertook the effort to review this work. Their suggestions and comments had an influence on its final form. I owe sincere thanks to Prof. Piotr Gębica for the opportunity to discuss the key issues in the field of geomorphology. I am also grateful to Prof. Paweł Valde-Nowak for his constructive comments and suggestions, which he shared with me while reviewing this paper for printing.
