Abstract

Autor analizuje Władysława Witwickiego przekłady dialogów Platona. Podkreśla ich olbrzymią rolę w upowszechnieniu Platona w Polsce, podniesieniu kultury literackiej Polaków i ich znajomości świata antycznego. Omawia ich walory (wrażliwość na dramaturgiczną warstwę oryginałów, nowoczesny język) i wady (zbyt popularny obraz filozofii Platona).The author analyzes Wladyslaw Witwicki’s translations of the Dialogues of Plato, his huge role in disseminating Plato’s works in Poland, and in broadening the literary knowledge of the ancient world among Polish people. The article discusses their advantages (sensitivity to dramatic aspects of the original text, modern language) and disadvantages (an excessively popular image of Plato's philosophy).
