Abstract

Not only is Rzeszow the biggest town in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the administration centre of different levels but it is also a significant centre of education, culture, science, industrial production and services in general. Thus, Rzeszow offers the biggest and the most diverse labour market in the Podkarpacie region. The article aims at presenting basic data on the trends in the local labour market, the level and structure of unemployment and labour resources in Rzeszow. The evidence here presented indicates a relatively well-developed labour market, relatively low unemployment and a high potential of human resources. The article also addresses the issue of counteracting unemployment in the town. Reference is made to the potential of labour market institutions, to the passive and active methods applied with a view to counteract unemployment. The article has also described the policy of the town authorities regarding creating a favourable climate for investment.
