Istotnym celem pracy stała się charakterystyka tej części jarosławskiego społeczeństwa (warstwy) od drugiej połowy XIX w. do 1914 r., która – mając odpowiednie wykształcenie – żyła z pracy umysłowej, mogła więc być zaliczana do inteligencji. Grupa ta, w stratyfikacji społecznej, składała się z osób reprezentujących zawody zaufania publicznego – urzędnika, pracownika szkolnictwa, członka korpusu oficerskiego garnizonu jarosławskiego oraz przedstawicieli środowisk twórczych. Praca w końcowej części prezentuje krótkie biogramy jarosławian reprezentujących inteligencję.The study Inteligencja w Jarosławiu w okresie autonomii [The intelligentsia in Jarosław during the period of autonomy] fills a gap in the historiography of Jarosław. The essential aim of the work became the characterisation of that part of Jaroslav society (a social stratum) from the second half of the 19th century until 1914, which, if equipped with appropriate education, lived from intellectual work and could be defined as ‘intelligentsia’. This group, in the social stratification, consisted of people representing the professions of public trust, clerks, education workers, officer corps of the Jaroslaw garrison and creative circles.
