W pracy badam tzw. intermedialne kombinacje i odniesienia.
The dissertation is aboutintermedia relations that develop between literature and digital games. This research problem is based on a recognition that computer games are media hybrids. They borrow methods of representation and meaning creation from other media. My main hypothesis states that the medium of digital games is influenced by the medium of literature. Games not only incorporate literary semiotic devices into their structures, but also radically transform them. I base my methodology onthe typologies of intermedialities created by Irina O. Rajewsky and Werner Wolf. However, I revise these classifications, and supplement them with LarsElleström’s definition of mediality, and also with the theories of remediation, intertextuality and paratextuality. Following chosen theories of media studies and ludology, I assume that intermedial transformations are influenced by cybertextuality, procedurality and spatiality of games. In my dissertation I inspect intermedial combinations and references. I probe such phenomena as: the transfer of literary practices onto the game mediality, textual forms available in games, relation between reading and playing practices, representations of literary techniques and tools (including traditional literary media devices such as books), material, literary artifacts, which expand games’ mediality in the paratextual processes, and mechanisms that are used to create games inspired by literary works.
