    The article touches upon a significant issue relating to the valency of verbs. Its main purpose is to show the factual implementation of the syntactic requirements of verb valency in the original Polish poems of the Nobel Prize winner Wisława Szymborska and in their German translation. The author does not only analyze the syntagmas involving the main verbs and their valency patterns, but it also deals with particularly numerous cases of filled and incomplete valency implementation as well as examples of „valency expansion“. The analysis shows in particular that reduced valency implementation is more widespread in the original Polish poems than in their German translations. This indicates that the translator has often added the missing complements to his translations.
