Pozycja ‘Did he get to second base?’ –baseball metaphor as a means of describing the degree of physical intimacy in the fifty shades trilogy(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Kurowska, KarolinaThe main aim of this article is to demonstrate the mechanism of the SEX IS BASEBALL metaphor, and to focus on its motivation, as well as on its possibly degrading effect on modern society. The concept of conceptual metaphor proposed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) and further discussed by other scholars constitutes one of the most expedient devices that can be applied in this kind of research.Pozycja „Prącie brzmi jak prodiż” – analiza komunikacji seksualnej młodych heteroseksualnych mężczyzn(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024) Wysocki, Konrad RyszardIn the article, I analyse the components of sexual communication of young heterosexual men, such as: the context of the conversation, the characteristics of the group, the arrangement of space, and the topics discussed and not discussed. Taking the perspective of the social theory of sexuality and the sociology of language, I come to the conclusion that sexual communication is a complex process that depends on a number of factors. Based on in-depth interviews with young men, I conclude that sexual communication (1) is entangled in the social interpretation of sexuality, (2) is organized around the “serious-entertainment” axis, (3) appropriate strategies are undertaken in order to mitigate the negative effects discussing sexuality, (4) talking about sexuality has an educational, personal identification, normalizing, entertaining and integrating function.Pozycja Równość szans pracowników i pracowniczek akademickich Akademii Pedagogiki Specjalnej im. In effect of the ageing process, there are involutional changes in older adults both in the mental and in the physical spheres. Some factors may slow down the ageing process. Physical activity is one of these factors. Physical ability is one of the most important indicators of quality of life of older adults, and it can be shaped by physical activity. Aim. The aim of the study was to assess chosen factors that influence physical ability of adults older than 65 years. Material and methods. The study involved 63 older adults. The criterion for inclusion in the study was the age - older than 65 years. There were 37 women and 26 men in the study population. All the subjects were able to walk without assistance, and they had no contraindications to do functional tests. We used a questionnaire of our own design, three SPPB trials, Up&Go test; we calculated the BMI indices and assessed depression scale. Results. We found that older adults rarely engage in physical activity. The low level of physical activity of the older adults was reflected in equally low physical ability level, as assessed by functional tests. We found a directly proportional dependence between body mass and the level of functional limitations and risk of falls. Conclusion. In our functional tests, we found a statistically significant correlation with regard to age and BMI index.Pozycja Wyznaczniki płci w grobach ludności grup leśnostepowych kultury scytyjskiej(Muzeum Okręgowe w Rzeszowie, 2016) Burghardt, MarcinIn the present article, based on the analysis of 120 burial complexes discovered in the forest-steppe zone of the middle Dnieper basin and the middle Don basin and dated from the second half of the sixth century to the fourth/ third century BC (for which anthropological determinants of sex were available), a series of 21 items was distinguished with the determinants of male or female sex. In addition, based on a comparative analysis taking into account also the burials with determined sex by the researchers based on the grave goods accompanying the dead (110 burials), it demonstrated the legitimacy of functioning in the literature the views on the sex determinants. Analyzing the co-existence of different types of sex determinants in male and female graves, it was found that the former ones are characterized mainly by the presence of sets of weapons combined with the lack of ornaments or spindle whorls (specific to women), mirrors and other toilet items. Moreover, the male sex of the deceased was also marked by means of the presence of blade and blunt weapon, elements of body armour, parts of the horse tack, whips, bronze cauldrons, clamps and straps, flint flakes in the grave. Whereas, as for the graves of women, despite the presence of items related to sewing (needles and spindle whorls) and toilet (mirrors, stone tiles and pieces of dyes), the occurrence of sets of ornaments or some individual types (earrings occurring in pairs, necklaces with gold elements, rings, pins) is also characteristic in their inventories. These items are found in both the graves with weaponry, where there are at least two-element sets, as well as elsewhere. In the last case, female sex may be testified by the present of one determinant of this sex in the grave.
