    Impresje zaoceanicznego czytelnika
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Sabo, Roman
The paper attempts to form a subjective judgment of literary events taking place in Poland after 1990. The author shares his observations on the literary works of Polish prose writers (Pilch, Karpowicz, Kuczok) focusing the reader’s attention on Joanna Bator’s novel "Ciemno, prawie noc". The language of artistic expression becomes the main point of reference. On the basis of the analysis of these two prose works we put forward a thesis that post-Gombrowiczan language: the language of derision, grotesque, baroque elaborateness, has lost its popularity and now it is covering the reality rather than uncovering it. In turn, at the other extreme one may find Andrzej Stasiuk’s "Opowieści galicyjskie". These are texts, narrations and stories which are suitable for reading; they can either delight or outrage. They stand on their own merits, so they do not need excessive analyses which interfere with the pleasure of reading.

Kiemlicze pomogli. O Sienkiewiczowskich odniesieniach w prozie Karola Olgierda Borchardta
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Rusin, Joanna
Born at the beginning of the 20th century, the popular Polish writer and captain of the Polish Merchant Marine, Karol Olgierd Borchardt, belonged to a generation brought up on the literary work of Henryk Sienkiewicz. "Potop" was Borchardt’s favourite novel, and Sienkiewicz his most acknowledged writer. Recalling his sailing at sea, especially in the novels "Znaczy kapitan" (1961) and "Szaman morski" (1985), Borchardt eagerly and frequently made references to characters and events from "Trylogia". Even in his unfinished book of childhood memories, "Pod czerwoną różą" (1991), published posthumously, while telling a family anecdote, Borchardt made references to Kiemlicze, known from "Potop". One may say that Borchardt remained faithful to Sienkiewicz for the rest of his life, invariably con amore referring to and citing the works of Sienkiewicz.

Literatura polska we Włoszech po 1989 roku
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024-12) De Carlo, Andrea F.
The history of Italian translations of Polish literary works is closely linked not only to the development of Italian publishing, but also to a reception that took a somewhat different course compared to that of other great European literatures. Undoubtedly a bibliography of Polish works translated in Italy can provide interesting and objective information on the choices made by Italian cultural circles, and in particular on the contribution of polonists and ‚polonophiles’ in the diffusion of Polish literature in Italy, on the editorial initiatives that have characterized the book industry from 1989 to today, on the function of the translator, who is necessarily responsible for the success or failure of a work, and whose figure often does not receive the attention it deserves despite the role played in the context of cultural circulation. The article aims to reveal that the ‘presence’ of Polish literary works has profoundly changed – apparently – for the better, thanks also to the work of a new and large generation of Polish scholars and lively young translators, whose interest is mainly oriented towards contemporary Polish literature.

„Przybywaj, ogniu!” Szkic o historii polskich tłumaczeń dzieł Friedricha Hölderlina
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2020) Maryjka, Wojciech
The article of Wojciech Maryjka presents the development of Polish translations of the works of the German poet, writer and philosopher, Friedrich Hölderlin, whose 250th birthday anniversary falls on 20 March 2020. The author of the text provides the reasons why Hölderlin evoked interest in the Polish literature rather late. He indicates a significant role of translations of Stefan Napierski dated 1937 and 1938, but he noted that also Leo Belmont had translated several of Hölderlin’s poems earlier, in 1900. Further in the article, the researcher highlights the significance of the Selected Poems by Hölderlin published in 1964 that had been translated into Polish by Mieczysław Jastrun. Maryjka also indicates the significance of the pioneer monograph of the life of Hölderlin written by Zdzisław Żygulski. Further in the study, volumes of Hölderlin’s poetry are discussed, as translated by Bernard Antochewicz, Andrzej Pańta, Antoni Libera and Andrzej Lam, who had been the first who translated all poems of the German poet. The author of the article did not skip other works that contributed to exploration of the works and life of Hölderlin in Poland including, inter alia, the fictionalized biography entitled Hölderlin by Peter Härtling, translated by Sława Lisiecka, or the volume containing Hölderlin’s letters and his Hyperion prepared by Anna Milska and Wanda Markowska.

Recepcja filozofii utopii i nadziei Ernsta Blocha wśród filozofów z krajów słowiańskich
    (Autor, 2016) Leskovic, Andrej

Sprawozdanie z międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej w Wiśle „Literatura obu Ameryk II”
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2015) Fiedeń, Anna
The report summarizes the International Academic Conference ‘Literature of Both Americas II’ (‘Literatura Obu Ameryk II’) which was held by the Faculty of Philology of the University of Silesia (Katowice) from 17 to 19 November 2014. It was the second conference of the series, which this time took place in picturesque Wisła and gathered researchers of migrant literature from both Poland and abroad. The multitude and variety of research areas presented not only supported their multidimensional exploration, but also once again showed that the issue of migrant literature in historical and literary research is reaching ever-widening circles. The conference in Wisła presented both a panoramic and detailed account of Polish literature in Canada and the United States, but still it paid attention to the need for focusing on the less explored issue of Polish literature in Latin and South America.

The Reception and Performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Instrumental Music in “Ville Lumière” from the late 1820s through the mid–1840s
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024-10) Cadi Sulumuna, Temina
Ludwig van Beethoven emerged as a towering figure in the French press during the first half of the nineteenth century. His “bizarre” music served as an excellent tool for contemporary progressive critics, helping them to form an elite audience and elevate “the musical intelligence of the masses”, to show professional musicians the direction which “modern music” should take and to encourage skillful amateurs to dare to perform compositions that may not have been captivating upon first being heard. Readers of the time were thus gradually compelled to accept the “new German school of composition”. It was mainly in promoting Beethoven’s instrumental music in Ville Lumière that the French press saw a strong argument for portraying the city as the hub of the most sublime and finest European music. The purpose of the present article is to contribute towards musicological studies by depicting a complex picture of assimilating, interpreting, and evaluating Beethoven’s music as well as adapting it to French performance conventions. All these points are considered through the lens of the music and non-music press targeting a highly diverse readership during the first half of the nineteenth century. The article is divided into two sections. The first section focuses on the reception of Beethoven’s instrumental music by the elite Parisian audience, while the second one discusses the French peculiarities in the performance of Beethoven’s music from the late 1820s to the mid-1840s.

„W tym kosmosie będzie lepiej? Tak, tak. Lepiej.” Ufo nad Bratysławą Weroniki Gogoli w kontekście słowackim
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024-12) Olchowa, Gabriela
This article is focused on the Slovak translation of Weronika Gogola’s UFO over Bratislava in the Slovak context. Attention was given to the information available on the websites of the Polish Czarne Publishing House, where the original book came out, and the Slovak Absinthe Publishing House, where the translation was published. The information presenting the book and the author’s notes on the publisher’s website were compared. The role of the „Absinthe” publishing house in popularising the genre of reportage in Slovakia, especially through its translations of books from the Polish school of reportage, is emphasised. In addition, the author of the article compares the graphic side of the covers of the original and the translation, and points out the additional elements in the Slovak edition: the introduction to the Slovak edition and the acknowledgements. She then describes the footnotes of the translator Alexander Horák and the author of the collection of reportages herself. In addition, the reception of Ufo nad Bratislavou in Poland is presented, in order to describe more extensively the reception of the translation of Ufo nad Bratislavou in Slovakia.
