The knowledge of archaeology students, concerning the promotion and ways of using archaeology in social and economic development, is minimal. Conducted surveys and anthropological interviews show that the students’ consciousness of archaeology utilitarianism, as well as knowledge in this field, is inadequate. The dominant approach is that the archaeology student stops having any interest in his/her discovery as soon as it is published in a scientific version and all the artefacts are given to the museum. Many answers show, that students still approach archaeology as in 19th century, which was only engaged in gaining remains. This situation has caused that archaeology in Poland is seen as a science only for science’s sake without contributing anything to social and economic development. To change the described situation, we need to widen the curricula with the subjects concerning promotion and marketing of archaeology.
