One of the first Polish philosophers to recognise the peculiarities of the humanities. Thus, he appreciated the role of culture in the development of social reality and, at the same time, noticed its crisis and decline. He recognised that higher culture is a remedy for the crisis of modern civilisation. He made insightful and accurate analyses of the works by I. Kant, L. Feuerbach and F. Nietzsche.Pozycja Milestones in the Teaching of Mathematics to Children in Polish Territories from the Last Decades of the Nineteenth Century Until The End of the Twentieth Century(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2017) Domoradzki, StanisławIn the talk, we will present persistent efforts to provide modern mathematical education to children aged 7–10 years in the period of the partitions and the two-decade interwar period. Particular attention will be paid to the works of now-forgotten Jeske (1836–1875), Jeleńska (1885–1961), Rusiecki (1892–1956). We will also underline the commitment of university professors of mathematics to mathematical education of younger children, including Banach (1892–1945). We will refer to the modern conception of teaching mathematics to younger children, among others, to the concept of children;s mathematics developed by Gruszczyk-Kolczyńska. We will observe the metamorphosis of the role of the decimal system of counting in the mathematical education of children in Poland in the period under discussion. The modern pedagogics is oriented to create such a preparation system that would use newest achievements in the field of informational technologies and would allow reflect the specifics of professional activity and form the ability to adapt in professional environment.Pozycja Wojna (nie)opisana(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Szczepaniak, MonikaThe paper is a review of the book “Rozrachunki z wojną” by Sławomir Buryła (Warszawa, Instytut Badań Literackich PAN 2017), which is devoted to the problems of literary representation of war in specific sociocultural contexts. Buryła reflects on Polish literature and pays special attention to the question: what does literature know about war and why? In addition, he diagnoses zones of silence and neglect as serious deficits within Polish war studies, particularly in the field of literary studies. The review contains a reconstruction and analysis of the argumentation provided in “Rozrachunki z wojną” as a contribution to such difficult and embarrassing topics as war, violence, genocide and “time of contempt”.
