Pozycja Effects of core-stabilization and trunk balance exercises on clinical parameters in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain – a randomized pilot study(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2023-06) Fapojuwo, Oluseun Akinleye; Akodu, Ashiyat Kehinde; Ositelu, Adurayemi EstherIntroduction and aim. This study compared the efficacy of core stabilization (CSE) and trunk balance exercises (TBE) with flexibility training on pain-related disability (PRD), psychological status (PS) and fear avoidance belief (FAB) in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). Material and methods. Twenty-eight (28) participants diagnosed of NSCLBP were randomly assigned into CSE, TBE, and control groups (CG). Participants in CSE (n=10); TBE (n=8) and CG groups (n=10) received core stabilization exercise, trunk balance exercise and back care advice respectively. All participants received flexibility training in addition to treatment in their respective groups. Assessment of outcomes were done at baseline, end of 4 th and 8 th week. Results. There was significant improvement in all outcomes in the CSE, TBE and CG at 8 weeks; PRD (p=0.005, p=0.008, p=0.005), PS: depression (p=0.005, p=0.008, p=0.007); anxiety (p=0.005, p=0.007) and FAB about work (p=0.005, p=0.007, p=0.005); about physical activity (p=0.005, p=0.018, p=0.006). Comparison of outcomes between CSE and TBE groups showed no significant difference (p>0.05) Conclusion. Both CSE and TBE with flexibility training are effective in improving PRD, PS and FAB of patients with NSCLBP.Pozycja Perceived COVID-19 anxiety, fear and depression levels among university students during the decreased restrictions of COVID-19 pandemic(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2024-12) Baş, KazimIntroduction and aim. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted human life. It is observed that a significant group affected by this situation are university students. Evaluating the psychological states of students during the transition to normal life from the pandemic period is important. This study was conducted to examine the perceived levels of COVID-19 anxiety, fear, and depression among university students during the descreased restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted with 1170 university students. The data were collected using “the Introductory Information Form, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale – Short Form, and the Depression Scale. Results. It was observed that there was a difference between gender, class, education level, income level, having had COVID-19, and having a deceased relative due to COVID-19 and perceived COVID-19 anxiety and fear and depression levels among university students (p<0.05). Conclusion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, although restrictions have been lifted, students still experience moderate levels of COVID-19 anxiety, fear, and depression. Therefore, considering the factors that affect university students’ mental state, there is a need for services that support students’ mental well-being.Pozycja The correlation between nursing students’ levels of fear and stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic and their compliance with standard precautions(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2023-09) Yilmaz Kurt, Fatma; Alankaya, Naile; Atay, Selma; Efil, SevdaIntroduction and aim. University students have been demonstrated in the literature to be a group particularly vulnerable to mental health problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between the fear and anxiety levels of nursing students regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and their compliance with standard precautions. Material and methods. The sample consisted of 509 volunteer students. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S), the COVID-19 Anxiety Scale (CAS) and the Compliance with Standard Precautions Scale (CSPS). Results. The FCV-19S, CAS, and CSPS mean scores of the students were respectively 17.49±5.24 1.99±3.54 and 13.46±3.61. There was a moderate correlation (p<0.05) between the FCV-19S and CAS of the students, but no correlation was detected between CSPS and FCV-19S (p>0.05) and CAS (p>0.05). Conclusion. It was determined that students had a moderate fear of COVID-19 and a low level of anxiety over COVID-19. However, fear of COVID-19 and COVID-19 anxiety levels were not correlated with compliance with standard precautions.Pozycja The Language of Fear in Children’s Literature: A Case Study of Ted Hughes’s Poems for Children(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Chrzanowska-Kluczewska, ElżbietaThe article tackles the issue of the language of fear exploited in children’s literature, taking Ted Hughes’s Nature poems for young readers as the object of analysis. It presents a perspective of linguistic stylistics and literary semantics and as such is not meant to be a critical literary evaluation of Hughes’s poetry. Rather, it focuses on linguistic instruments of creating the aura of fear in children’s poetry and their cognitive import. The author has chosen a neuroscientific paradigm for the two closely related emotions – fear and anxiety – as propagated by American researcher Joseph LeDoux, most prominently in his work “Anxious” (2015). LeDoux maintains that the feeling of fear is not inborn but rather a cognitive construct emergent from the use of one’s native language practiced within a particular socio-cultural context. The unique atmosphere of Hughes’s poetry has been achieved by a rich lexicon of fear-related notions and a skillfully applied figuration (anthropomorphisms, similes). His poetic imagery powerfully complements the vocabulary and troping in calling to life fictional worlds, often uncanny and menacing, remote from the young readers’ experience. The author of this article perceives in the lexicon, figuration and multimodal imagery (both verbal and visual, the latter realized as illustrations in picture-books) an important didactic device that teaches children how to manage fearsome experiences. This capability will also prepare children to face anxiety, an emotion typical of adult life and related mostly to existential problems.Pozycja The politics of fear in Yussef El Guindi’s Back of the throat(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024-12) Kirin, IvanaThe events of September 11 and the ensuing ‘war on terror’ saw the rise of private and structural Islamophobia in the USA. Centuries-old essentialist myths and stereotypes have been used to perpetuate the image of Muslims and Arabs as the antithesis to the West, most often as could-be terrorists—a danger to both individual and national identity, values and even life itself. As Svendsen (2008), Furedi (2018), Ahmed (2014) and Bauman (2006) argue, whoever controls fear, controls the society. This paper examines the cultural and discursive strategies of disciplining through the reproduction of fear and safety narratives in Yussef El Guindi’s play Back of the Throat. It analyses the reciprocal effects culturally constructed fear has on both its subjects and objects. Finally, it describes the lived experiences of Arab/Muslim Americans in the aftermath of 9/11, in the climate of prejudice-driven fear that undermines their individual freedoms and civil rights.Pozycja The relationship between psychological well-being with levels of anxiety, COVID-19 fear and depression in individuals hospitalized with COVID-19(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2024-06) Düzgün, Nurcan; Çoban, Sibel Arguvanli; Kaya, Özlem BolatIntroduction and aim. The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected both the physical and mental health of societies. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between psychological well-being with levels of anxiety, COVID-19 fear, and depression in individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Material and methods. This descriptive correlative study was conducted with 685 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 treated in the clinics of a pandemic hospital. The data of the study were collected with the information form, psychological well-being scale (PWBS), COVID-19 fear scale (FCV-19S), and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). Results. The mean PWBS score of the participants was 37.21±14.3, the FCV-19S score was 20.10±10.41, the HADS-anxiety score was 9.07±7.29, and the depression score was 10.74±7.35. The PWBS scores with FCV-19S scores of the participants, HADS-anxiety, and HADS-depression scores were found to be negatively correlated (p<0.001). Conclusion. In conclusion, as the anxiety, fear, and depression levels experienced by individuals receiving inpatient treatment in a pandemic hospital due to COVID-19 increase, their psychological well-being levels decrease at a statistically significant level. It may be recommended to intervene in the anxiety, fear, and depressive symptoms of individuals receiving inpatient treatment due to a diagnosis of COVID-19 to increase their psychological well-being.Pozycja О выражении страха лексемами с корнем страх / страш-(на материале русских литературных текстов и их перевода на польский язык)(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2017) Kiper, MilenaThe article presents linguistic ways of expressing fear in Russian literature.
