Jerzy Nowosielski – „Maestro od marzenia”

The paper presents Jerzy Nowosielski – the outstanding Polish painter and professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. It was the artist who called himself ”Maestro of dreams”. Nowosielski is still present in the memories of his disciples as a charismatic teacher. In his didactic work he was not only a master of painting but first of all the spiritual pattern impressing the students with his versatile interdisciplinary knowledge. This knowledge determined the unique character of his creative activity shared with the students.

The repeated question about who is my master has provoked me into giving a nonconforming answer, or anyway, not entirely in keeping with the “fundamental” model of education based on the master-disciple principle. I think this relationship is not a sine qua non in contemporary education, which is, indeed, based on post-figurative culture, yet increasingly co-figurative and pre-figurative. It is a cliché to repeat that not all scholars can be masters and not all teachers deserve this name. The name itself raises objections: “master” suggests superiority and therefore power over someone. Master, according to a centuries-old tradition, expects a long apprenticeship, which in the current process of education is not always liberating, just the opposite, it can be a hindrance, threatening an individual’s independence, intimidating and requiring subservience towards the professed values. Why not search for other ideals, instead of a master? Search for a scholar? As Barbara Skarga said, only reason should have authority! That is why I would like “master” to be replaced by “artist”, because artist has doubts and tries things out; has flashes of inspirations but is always on the lookout for novelty, without claiming to know all.
Twórczość literacka i krytyczna Anieli Gruszeckiej

Aniela Gruszecka to pisarka, której twórczość obfituje w wiele nieodkrytych dotychczas powieści. Cechą charakterystyczną jej pisarstwa jest łączenie zróżnicowanej tematyki i skupienie się na szczegółowej analizie przeżyć wewnętrznych tworzonych przez nią bohaterów. W twórczości Gruszeckiej odnaleźć można powieść psychologiczną, powieści historyczne, beletrystykę dziecięcą i artykuły krytyczne o literaturze dla dzieci i młodzieży. Pisarstw Anieli Gruszeckiej jest dopiero odkrywane, o czym świadczą coraz liczniej pojawiające się artykuły dotyczące najbardziej znanej powieści Przygoda w nieznanym kraju. Gruszecka ma jednak o wiele więcej do zaoferowania czytelnikom. Uwagę zwraca duże zróżnicowanie poruszanych przez nią tematów i motywów, które pisarka umiejętnie łączy w spójną całość. Wśród nich dominują trzy główne tematy: historia, język i dziecko. Zainteresowanie Gruszeckiej tymi tematami widoczne jest w każdym jej utworze.
Władza nad martwą naturą. Cézanne Herberta

This article is an interpretation of Zbigniew Herbert’s poem Still Life, taking into account a lot of contexts, e. g. the references to Cézanne’s life, work and its reception present in the poem, Herbert’s other opinions on the artist’s work, as well as the earlier interpretations of the poem (by Roman Bobryk and Magdalena Sniedziewska). The author of the article shows how in the poem on Cézanne Herbert presents one of the major problems of his own work, i. e. the relations between art and transcendence, between the divine and the human.
