Pozycja Polemics on the survival strategies applied by Jews on the Aryan side of Dębica county(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2023-03) Rączy, Elżbieta; Surdej, Mirosław; Szopa, PiotrFor years historians have discussed the attitude of Poles towards Jews during the Holocaust. Tomasz Frydel’s article on the survival strategies applied by Jews during the German occupation in Dębica county is one of the contributions to this discussion. The authors of the present article wanted to draw the reader’s attention to Frydel’s somewhat simplified approach toward the issue of Polish -Jewish rela-tionships. The first part of this article is a critical analysis of accounts and testimonies given by persons who survived the Holocaust around the current Subcarpathian Province. This part also illustrates the reality of Polish residents of Dębica county during the German occupation, which was one of the main causes for their attitude towards ghetto runaways. The second part describes the attitude of the Home Army towards Jews hiding on the Aryan side in Dębica county during the German occupation. It analyses Frydel’s findings concerning the numbers of murdered Jews and circumstances of their death.Pozycja Rezonans medialny nowelizacji ustawy o Instytucie Pamięci Narodowej w wybranych tygodnikach opinii(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2018) Zemła, BernardynaIn the prelude I introduce threads related to European anti-Semitism. Presenting the functionalists’ standpoint, I elaborate on contemporary attempts to explain the phenomena of mass murder of the Jewish nation during World War II, while placing emphasis on the fact that the historical politics of the Holocaust in Israel and Poland is not yet a closed chapter. Following these conclusions, the goal and methodology of my research is devoted to media reaction to the amendment to the Act pertaining to the Institute of National Remembrance in chosen Polish weekly newspapers of record. In the end I present the results of the research conducted from 29th of January to 15th of April.Pozycja Why did the Jewish combatants need Union of Jews Participants of Combat for Polish Independence in the Second Polish Republic?(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2019) Wierzbieniec, WacławThis article attempts to provide an answer as to why the Jewish combatants founded the Union of Jews Participants of Combat for Polish Independence (Związek Żydów Uczestników Walk o Niepodległość Polski), which operated in the period of 1929–1939. It was the only combatant organization in the Second Polish Republic that represented a national minority. The focus of this article is on the origin of the Union, its aims, goals and activities, as well as its developed organizational structure. Taken into consideration were also the Union’s fundamental activities such as supporting self-help organizations, participating in annual events concerned with Polish history, spreading the knowledge of Jewish combatants’ involvement in the fight for Poland’s independence as well as the Union’s protest against anti-Semitism in the 1930s and the Union’s activities abroad. The Union was needed, because it allowed the Jewish combatants to take an active role in building up the Polish state, which had been erased from the maps for 123 years, influence its activities and at the same time supporting it and helping protect the interests of the whole Jewish community, in Poland and abroad. Members of the Union, the Jewish combatants who fought for Poland’s independence, felt themselves entitled to, as well as morally obliged, protect their interests as well as those of the community they represented. They vied for respect and tolerance for their community and for the equal treatment of all Polish citizens, including Jews.
