Polish literature in major British translation prizes
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2024-12) Hoyte-West, Antony
This article offers a short desk-based overview of how works of Polish literature translated into English have performed in the upper stages of four major British prizes for literary translation: the International Booker Prize, the Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize, the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation, and the EBRD Literature Prize. Initially, some historical and present-day information about Polish language and culture in the United Kingdom is given before the core details of the four selected prizes are presented. Subsequently, using data taken from the websites for each of the awards, the presence of Polish literature in the shortlists and among the eventual prize-winners is highlighted. This is done through analysing relevant information regarding the selected works, including details about the particular works, their original authors, their literary translators, and their publishers.

Polska poezja w Izraelu. O twórczości translatorskiej Davida Weinfelda
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2020) Christianus-Gileta, Katarzyna
David Weinfeld is one of the leading Israeli translators of Polish poetry into Hebrew. His translation work, especially of Czesław Miłosz and Zbigniew Herbert’s poetry, played an important role in the poetry translated into Hebrew. Thanks to preserving a balance between adherence to the exact translation and a sense of familiarity, Weinfeld’s translation work has been appreciated among Israeli critics. It also has undeniable impact on Israeli poets’ writings.

The International Potential of the Polish Nineteenth-Century Novel – a Review of Grażyna Borkowska and Lidia Wiśniewska’s (eds.) “Another Canon: The Polish Nineteenth-Century Novel in World Context”
(Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego, 2021) Rokosz, Elżbieta
The article is a review of “Another Canon: The Polish Nineteenth-Century Novel in World Context”, edited by Grażyna Borkowska and Lidia Wiśniewska, published in 2020 by Lit Verlag, Switzerland within the “Polonistik im Kontext” series. The first part of the monograph includes articles that provide a reinterpretation of selected novels (including Krasicki’s “The Adventures of Mr. Nickolas Wisdom”, Orzeszkowa’s “On the Niemen”, and Sienkiewicz’s “Without Dogma”) in relation to the main currents of world literature. The second part focuses on the reception of selected nineteenth-century Polish novels in Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, France, Spain, the United States, and Great Britain. The publication is aimed at raising the interest of non-Polish recipients in the nineteenth-century novels during a period when twentieth and contemporary Polish literature has already gained relative popularity abroad.
